Kangfuxin (KFX), a well-known Chinese patent medicine which extracted from Periplaneta americana, is widely used as an adjuvant in the treatment of peptic ulcers (PUs) with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) such as rabeprazole, in China. However, no clear consensus has been reached on the efficacy for PU treatment. ⋯ Our study suggests that KFX combined with rabeprazole showed positive therapeutic effects and is safe for treating PU, which may provide more reliable evidence for the clinical use of KFX in the treatment of PU.

Comparison of perioperative hidden blood loss for intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly by different intramedullary fixations: A randomized controlled study protocol.
Till date only a few studies have reported the clinical outcomes of intraoperative hidden blood loss of intertrochanteric fracture in the old people treated with various intramedullary immobilizations. The aim of the trial is to investigate the best choice for treating intertrochanteric fractures, as well as the hidden blood loss among different intramedullary fixations. ⋯ The results of this trial will provide more evidence on which technique can better treat unstable intertrochanteric fracture.

This study meta-analyzed the literature on possible association of 3 polymorphisms (-592, -1082, -819) in the interleukin-10 (IL-10) gene with susceptibility to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 infection. ⋯ The available evidence indicates that the AA genotype of IL-10 -592 may confer increased susceptibility to HIV-1 infection, and that the AA genotype of -1082 may confer increased susceptibility in Caucasians. In contrast, the -819 polymorphism may not be associated with HIV-1 infection risk. These conclusions should be verified in large, well-designed studies.

To investigate the effect of multidisciplinary interventions on pain management in cancer inpatients. Four hundred thirty eight patients with cancer pain, who performed the multidisciplinary intervention were recruited. Before and after intervention, the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) and the MD Anderson Symptom Inventory (MDASI) score as the primary endpoints and QOL scores as the secondary endpoint were all evaluated. ⋯ The QOL analyses showed multidisciplinary interventions could significantly improve the function and symptom scores (P < .001). More patients in responder group received chemotherapy (58, 70.7%, P = .003), while fewer received mini-invasive therapy (6, 7.32%, P = .011). Multidisciplinary interventions had certain beneficial effect on cancer pain management, especially in patients with moderate or severe pain.

Chinese herbal medicine is a commonly used traditional treatment for ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Among them, Yanghe decoction (YHD) has an obvious effect in relieving the symptoms of AS, but its efficacy is still controversial. The purpose of this study is to systematically evaluate the effectiveness and safety of YHD in the treatment of AS patients. ⋯ This study will provide evidence for the effectiveness of YHD in treating patients with AS.
