Esophageal window defect in patients with esophageal resection could be challenging to repair. In this case report, a free posterior tibial artery perforator flap (FPTAPF) was used for semi-circumference patch esophagoplasty. ⋯ This case highlights the stable performance of FPTAPF when used for the reconstruction of large esophageal window defect.

Multilocular cystic renal neoplasm of low malignant potential (MCRNLMP) might be benefited from nephron-sparing surgery. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography is used for the diagnosis of MCRNLMP but contrast-enhanced ultrasound has lack of nephrotoxicity and several advantages over contrast-enhanced computed tomography and contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance. The purpose of the study was to compare diagnostic parameters of preoperative contrast-enhanced ultrasound against contrast-enhanced computed tomography for the detection of MCRNLMP in patients who faced curative surgery for complex cystic renal mass. ⋯ A contrast-enhanced ultrasound had 0.011 to 1.0 diagnostic confidence and contrast-enhanced computed tomography had 0.045 to 0.983 diagnostic confidence for decision making of nephron-sparing surgeries. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound may have better visualization of MCRNLMP than contrast-enhanced computed tomography. Level of Evidence: III.

To determine the effects of ankylosing spondylitis (AS)-associated hip damages on the outcome measurements after total hip arthroplasty (THA). The medical records of 122 patients with AS (181 hips) who underwent THA were retrospectively reviewed. The mean follow-up was 43.9 (32-129) months. ⋯ The multiple linear regression analysis showed that postoperative range of motion (ROM) improvement was affected by preoperative ROM of the hip, space narrowing degree, and ceramic-ceramic material for the weight-bearing surface (F = 179.81, P < .001), with preoperative ROM of the hip having the greatest impact. Severe femoral head erosion prolongs the recovery time of independent walking after THA. Acetabular sclerosis is not associated with poor outcomes in patients with AS-associated hip damage undergoing THA.

To investigate the accuracy of screening tests for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in Southeast Asian pregnant women. ⋯ Our findings indicate that the 50 g GCT using the threshold of 140 mg/dL is a good screening test for identifying GDM at 24 to 28 weeks' gestational age for both high-risk and universal screening strategies in Southeast Asian countries. The non-fasting 2-hour PG, fasting plasma glucose or hemoglobin A1c are alternative choices for screening.

In general terms, fetal growth restriction (FGR) is considered the impossibility of achieving the genetically determined potential size. In the vast majority of cases, it is related to uteroplacental insufficiency. Although its origin remains unknown and causes are only known in 30% of cases, it is believed to be related to an interaction of environmental and genetic factors with either a fetal or maternal origin. ⋯ Registered August 7, 2019, during the recruitment stage. Retrospectively registered. Ongoing research.
