Probiotics, prebiotics and synbiotics have been widely used in the treatment of respiratory diseases, but their clinical efficacy for treating chronic bronchitis (CB) or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has not been well studied. ⋯ DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/SP35M.

Previous studies examining the safety and efficacy of Q-value-guided laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for treating myopia have yielded inconsistent results. We, therefore, performed a meta-analysis to clarify this issue METHODS:: Various databases were conducted up to November 21, 2018. All randomized controlled trials and cohorts that compared Q-value-guided LASIK with standard LASIK were selected. Mean differences (MDs) or odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to evaluate the strength of the correlations. Additionally, different subgroup analyses and publication bias tests were performed. Data were extracted including the number of postoperative uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) of 20/20 or better, postoperative UCVA, preoperative and postoperative Q-value, postoperative refractive spherical equivalent (SE), the number of postoperative SE within ±0.5D, higher order aberration (HOA), coma-like aberration and spherical-like aberration. ⋯ Q-value-guided LASIK is a safe, effective and predictable surgical option for treating myopia, especially showing superiority over standard LASIK in postoperative Q-value, HOA and spherical-like aberration. However, more detailed studies are required to confirm our conclusions in advanced researches.

Dental general anesthesia (DGA) is a safe and high-quality restorative and preventive treatment option for children with severe early childhood caries (S-ECC), who require extensive dental treatment and exhibit anxiety and emotional or cognitive immaturity or are medically compromised. However, several postoperative complications have been reported in children under DGA. This study aimed to evaluate and analyze the prevalence of the relevant factors of postoperative complications in healthy Chinese children following DGA to provide a foundation for pre-, intra-, and postoperative overall health management for healthy and disabled children after DGA. ⋯ A decrease in dental procedure duration might reduce the odds of postoperative pain and weariness. A high nutritional status could be a protective factor for postoperative fever. Children with low nutritional status could be more susceptible to postoperative fever.

Electroacupuncture for the treatment of functional dyspepsia: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a common functional gastrointestinal disease. Acupuncture, including electroacupuncture (EA) is widely used as a complementary and alternative treatment for patients with FD. This study aimed to explore the effectiveness of EA for the treatment of FD. ⋯ This meta-analysis suggests that EA is better than the placebo (sham-EA) in treating FD, and the therapeutic effect of EA on FD is equivalent to that of PM on FD. Compared with PM, EA for FD is safer and has fewer adverse reactions. Despite limitations due to the quality and number of the included studies, EA might be used as an effective and safe treatment for FD.

Sleep disturbance and delirium in patients with acromegaly in the early postoperative period after transsphenoidal pituitary surgery.
Sleep disturbance is a common comorbidity among patients with acromegaly [patients with growth hormone (GH)-secreting tumor] due to somatotropic axis change and sleep apnea. However, no previous studies exist concerning sleep disturbance and delirium in the early postoperative period in patients with acromegaly undergoing transsphenoidal tumor surgery. Herein, we aimed to compare the incidence of postoperative sleep disturbance and delirium in the early postoperative period between patients with GH-secreting and nonfunctioning pituitary tumors. ⋯ The incidence of postoperative delirium was comparable between the 2 groups (6/969 [0.6%] vs 0/317 [0%]; P = .346). Patients with acromegaly showed increased incidence of sleep disturbance than those with nonfunctioning tumors in the early postoperative period after transsphenoidal tumor surgery. A prospective study evaluating sleep quality in patients with GH-secreting tumors in the early postoperative period could be conducted based on our findings.
