Effects of neuro-adaptive electrostimulation therapy on pain and disability in fibromyalgia: A prospective, randomized, double-blind study.
To evaluate the effectiveness of non-invasive neuro-adaptive electrostimulation (NAE) therapy for treating chronic pain and disability in patients with fibromyalgia. ⋯ In this fibromyalgia cohort, NAE therapy significantly improved pain and quality of life at 4 weeks, but not at 3-month follow-up, compared with the sham stimulation group. Future investigations are needed in larger populations to confirm these findings.

The alteration and potential relationship of vaginal microbiota and chemokines for unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion.
The diagnosis and treatment of unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion (URSA) is an important and hot topic in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. During our clinical investigation (observation), we have found that URSA patients usually experience recurrent vaginitis or vaginal dysbacteriosis during periods of non-pregnancy, pregnancy, and post-abortion. ⋯ Another aim of this study is to determine whether certain pathogenic genera can cause an imbalance in immune tolerance of the maternal and fetal interface through regulatory chemokines, which leads to recurrent spontaneous abortion. This article has explored URSA pathogenesis from the perspective of differentially expressed vaginal flora, which has great theoretical significance for the early diagnosis and treatment of URSA.

Chagas disease affects approximately 7 million people, causing disability and mortality in the most productive life stages of infected individuals. Considering the lifestyle of the world population, metabolic syndrome is a synergistic factor for an increased cardiovascular risk of patients with Chagas disease. This study transversally evaluated the metabolic and immunological profiles of patients with indeterminate (IF) and cardiac (CF) forms of Chagas disease and their correlations with left ventricular dysfunction (LVD). ⋯ The IF group had more participants with a higher waist-to-hip ratio (WHR). No significant difference was observed between metabolic syndrome, cytokine and adipocytokine level, and clinical forms of the disease or in relation to LVD. Individuals with the IF showed metabolic and immunological profiles compatible with increased disease control, whereas those with CF showed marked inflammatory immune response.

Skin cancer diagnoses are rising due to increasing ultraviolet ray exposure and an aging population. The complete surgical excision of skin cancer, including a normal tissue, has been the widely performed and determining the adequate safety margin is essential. In this study, we compared the preoperative thickness and width of skin cancer by ultrasonography with the measurements by histopathologic findings. ⋯ Ultrasonography can accurately measure the width and thickness of skin cancer and predict the safety margins of the wide excision. Preoperative ultrasonography is a good diagnostic tool for surgical planning. Additional studies with larger populations are needed to quantify the range of vertical safety margins.

This study aimed to clarify the neural correlates and underlying mechanisms of the subject's own name (SON) and the unique name derived from the SON (SDN). ⋯ SDN, which has created by us, is a new and self-related stimulus similar to SON. They might provide a useful reference for consciousness assessment with SON and SDN.
