Pulmonary edema following shoulder arthroscopy under general anesthesia with nerve block: An observational study.
Shoulder arthroscopy requires a large of irrigation for a better surgical view, leading circulatory overload. This study was performed to prove whether pulmonary edema will be lead by a large of irrigation. General anesthesia with interscalene block was induced before operation. ⋯ There is a high incidence of pulmonary edema in shoulder arthroscopy, and ultrasound is a convenient tool to evaluate this complication. Pain is relieved in 6 hours after surgery by nerve block. While muscle strength can also recover at 12 hours after surgery.

This study aimed to clarify the neural correlates and underlying mechanisms of the subject's own name (SON) and the unique name derived from the SON (SDN). ⋯ SDN, which has created by us, is a new and self-related stimulus similar to SON. They might provide a useful reference for consciousness assessment with SON and SDN.

There is limited evidence to assess the evaluation of the safety and effectiveness of autologous blood injections in the treatment of lateral epicondylitis patients. For this study, the aim was to compare the efficiency of corticosteroid and autologous blood injections for the treatment of lateral epicondylitis in a retrospective cohort trial in our single center. ⋯ The results of this study would provide new information about the influence of autologous blood injections in treating the lateral epicondylitis.

Adult split liver transplantation: A PRISMA-compliant Chinese single-center retrospective case-control study.
Although pediatric split liver transplantation (SLT) has been proven safe and the waitlist mortality rate has been successfully reduced, the safety of adult SLT has not been confirmed. Using 1:2 matching, 47 recipients who underwent adult SLT were matched to 94 of 743 recipients who underwent adult whole graft liver transplantation (WGLT). Eventually, 141 recipients were included in the case-control study. ⋯ Subgroup analysis showed no significant differences in hyperbilirubinemia within POD 7-14, complications, and survival rate between SLTMHV(+) and SLTMHV [-]. Adult SLT is safe and effective based on long-term survival rates; however, a reduction in the incidence of short-term complications is required. Non-obstructive hyperbilirubinemia within POD 7 to 14 is an independent predictor of short-term mortality after SLT.

Genetically increased circulating 25(OH)D level reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes in subjects with deficiency of vitamin D: A large-scale Mendelian randomization study.
Observational studies have reported that Vitamin D deficiency and the risk type 2 diabetes are associated, but the causation is unclear. Mendelian randomization (MR) involving genetic variants as instrument variables (IVs) overcomes the reverse-casualty and unmeasured confounding. However, with limited sample size and IVs, previous MR studies showed inconsistent results. ⋯ In addition, we confirmed the causal role Vitamin D using 2 synthesis-related single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) which are consistent with previous MR studies [OR per SD = 0.894, 95% CI = 0.816-0.979, P = .016]. With a largely improved sample size, our results confirmed that genetically increased 25(OH)D concentration reduced the risk of type 2 diabetes and provided a more precise estimate for the effect size. The updated result empowers the role of Vitamin D and provides nontrivial evidence for interventional studies.
