Adult split liver transplantation: A PRISMA-compliant Chinese single-center retrospective case-control study.
Although pediatric split liver transplantation (SLT) has been proven safe and the waitlist mortality rate has been successfully reduced, the safety of adult SLT has not been confirmed. Using 1:2 matching, 47 recipients who underwent adult SLT were matched to 94 of 743 recipients who underwent adult whole graft liver transplantation (WGLT). Eventually, 141 recipients were included in the case-control study. ⋯ Subgroup analysis showed no significant differences in hyperbilirubinemia within POD 7-14, complications, and survival rate between SLTMHV(+) and SLTMHV [-]. Adult SLT is safe and effective based on long-term survival rates; however, a reduction in the incidence of short-term complications is required. Non-obstructive hyperbilirubinemia within POD 7 to 14 is an independent predictor of short-term mortality after SLT.

Whereas handover of pertinent information between hospital and primary care is necessary to ensure continuity of care and patient safety, both quality of content and timeliness of discharge summary need to be improved. This study aims to assess the impact of a quality improvement program on the quality and timeliness of the discharge summary/letter (DS/DL) in a University hospital with approximatively 40 clinical units using an Electronic medical record (EMR). A discharge documents (DD) quality improvement program including revision of the EMR, educational program, audit (using scoring of DD) and feedback with a ranking of clinical units, was conducted in our hospital between October 2016 and November 2018. ⋯ The areas of the data for admission and discharge treatments remained the lowest level of compliance (44%). The involvement of doctors in the program and the challenge of participating units have fostered the improvement in the quality of the DD. However, the level of appropriation varied widely among clinical units and completeness of important information, such as discharge medications, remains in need of improvement.

Plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) is considered to be involved in the physiopathological mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease (AD), metabolic syndrome (MetS), and female infertility. Previous studies investigating the association between PAI-14G/5G (rs1799889) gene polymorphism and the risk of AD, MetS, and female infertility have reported inconsistent results. The aim of the present study was to investigate possible associations. ⋯ The present meta-analysis suggested that the PAI-1 4G/5G polymorphism might be associated with the risk of MetS, but no evidence was detected for AD and female infertility.
