This study sought to investigate the recent incidence rate of myopia in Chinese junior high school students and analyze the effect of time spent outdoors on myopia, in addition to facilitating the prevention and control of myopia among students. This study was derived from a national panel study, the China Education Panel Survey. We conducted three rounds of follow-up visits among 10,279 seventh grade students from 112 middle schools in 20 provinces in 2013. ⋯ For girls, compared with students who spent ≥14 hours/week outdoors, students with <7 hours/week spent outdoors retained a higher myopia rate (OR = 1.355; 95%CI: 1.067-1.720). Increased time spent outdoors can delay the development of myopia. In terms of gender, girls should be targeted to more effectively prevent and control the development and progression of myopia.

Sports injury type and psychological factors affect treatment period and willingness-to-pay: Cross-sectional study.
This study aimed to describe the sport injuries of elite collegiate athletes, and to examine the influence of career length, past injuries, and psychological factors on the treatment period and willingness to pay (WTP) for treatment. A survey was conducted among students of the Department of Physical Education, Korea National Sport University. Results were interpreted through frequency analysis and multiple linear regression analysis. ⋯ The treatment period was influenced by sports discipline, career length, location, and type of injury, and fear of further injuries. Treatment period was associated with the reason for fear of injuries, and WTP was influenced by fear of further injuries. Our study suggests that specific management plans for athletes based on disciplines, past injuries, and their emotional responses to previous injuries are required for rehabilitation and return to sports following treatment.

Atorvastatin and aspirin have been used in treating different forms of epilepsy. However, their effect on post-stroke epilepsy (PSE) still needs to be validated by large-scale clinical studies. In addition, their impact on the use of the antiepileptic drug levetiracetam for post-stroke epilepsy remains to be explored. Thus, the aim of this study was to further evaluate the effect of atorvastatin and aspirin on PSE and their effect on the usage of the antiepileptic drug levetiracetam in PSE patients. ⋯ Atorvastatin and aspirin co-treatment with levetiracetam can reduce epilepsy in PSE patients and reduce the dosage of levetiracetam required for effective control of PSE.

Plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) is considered to be involved in the physiopathological mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease (AD), metabolic syndrome (MetS), and female infertility. Previous studies investigating the association between PAI-14G/5G (rs1799889) gene polymorphism and the risk of AD, MetS, and female infertility have reported inconsistent results. The aim of the present study was to investigate possible associations. ⋯ The present meta-analysis suggested that the PAI-1 4G/5G polymorphism might be associated with the risk of MetS, but no evidence was detected for AD and female infertility.
