Observational Study
Effects of electroacupuncture on patients with chronic urinary retention caused by a lower motor neuron lesion: An exploratory pilot study.
Chronic urinary retention (CUR) is defined as a non-painful bladder that remains palpable or percussible after the patient has passed urine. Acupuncture may decrease PVR and improve bladder function in patients with neurogenic CUR. The aim of this study was to preliminarily observe the effectiveness of electroacupuncture (EA) for patients with CUR caused by a lower motor neuron lesion and to provide some therapeutic data for further study. ⋯ Decrease in PVR volume, compared with baseline, was significant at all asessment timepoints. The proportion of patients with severe difficulty with urination, who required assistance with bladder emptying and with stool retention, decreased after treatment. EA is a potential treatment for improving bladder function in patients with CUR caused by a lower motor neuron lesion.

Epidural anesthesia for emergency cesarean section in a woman with Fontan circulation: A case report.
Anesthetic management of pregnant women with Fontan circulation remains challenging. There are few reports that describe the anesthetic management of cesarean section after Fontan surgery. Here, we present a case of successful epidural anesthesia in a woman with Fontan circulation who required emergency cesarean section. ⋯ Epidural anesthesia may be used in women with Fontan circulation undergoing emergency cesarean section. Knowledge of the physiology of the heart lesion and that of pregnancy are critical to the outcome.

Allograft-prosthetic composites (APCs) and proximal femoral replacement have been applied for reconstruction of severe segmental femoral bone loss in revision total hip arthroplasty. The outcomes are encouraging but the complication rate is relatively high. Considering the high complication rates and mixed results of APCs and megaprosthesis, we presented a case using personalized 3D printed Titanium sleeve-prosthetic composite for reconstruction of segmental bone defect. ⋯ Despite the absence of long term results of 3D printed Titanium sleeve-prosthetic composite reconstruction, the good clinical and radiological outcome at 2 years follow up implied its potential role for reconstruction of segmental femoral bone defect in revision THA.

Complex reconstruction technique applied in advanced head and neck cancer.
Complex reconstruction skills in advanced head and neck cancer (HNC) could resolve the key problem of large defects after tumor resection. We combined the anterolateral thigh free flap, fascia lata flap, and greater saphenous vein graft in the reconstruction process of salvage surgery. Seven patients suffering from advanced HNC who experienced the failure of multiple therapeutic methods were enrolled in our study between June 2017 and January 2018. ⋯ All of the flaps were viable, but in 1 patient, oral flap edge infection and necrosis necessitated partial debridement on day 7 postoperatively. All donor sites were closed primarily. We report our experience with this surgical method for complex reconstruction in advanced HNC patients.

Lung cancer is the most common malignancy in China and has a low survival rate amongst Han Chinese. The high mortality is largely attributed to late-stage diagnosis, when treatment is largely ineffective. Identification of genetic variants could potentially assist with earlier diagnosis and thus more effective treatment. ⋯ Carriers of the GT + TT heterozygote of rs1634507 had a lower risk of lung cancer than wild-type (GG) carriers, while the presence of the AG + GG heterozygote at rs10491121 was associated with a higher risk of lung cancer compared with having the AA genotype. The G/A/G and T/A/A CCL4 haplotypes significantly reduced and increased the risks for lung cancer, respectively. Our study is the first to document correlations between CCL4 polymorphisms and lung cancer development and progression in people of Han Chinese ethnicity.
