To investigate the interaction between the single nucleotide polymorphism of the 3' untranslated region (3'UTR) of the pentraxin 3 (PTX3) gene, as well as environmental factors and the preeclampsia risk in a Chinese Han population. Sanger sequencing was used to analyze rs5853783 and rs73158510 loci of the PTX3 gene 3'UTR from 235 patients with preeclampsia and 235 control subjects. The plasma PTX3 protein level was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). ⋯ The AUC of plasma PTX3 protein level diagnosis of preeclampsia in PTX3 gene rs5853783 locus II genotype subjects was up to 0.9371, followed by the ID genotype (AUC = 0.8586); the DD genotype was the lowest (AUC = 0.8154). The AUC of plasma PTX3 protein level diagnosis of preeclampsia in rs73158510 locus GG genotype subjects was 0.9102, GA genotype was 0.8766, and AA genotype was 0.8750. The rs5853783 and rs73158510 SNPs in the 3'UTR region of the PTX3 gene are associated with the risk of preeclampsia in a Chinese Han population.

Primary dysmenorrhea (PD) is one of the most common gynecological complaint among menstruating females. Acupuncture has been employed to relieve the pain-based symptoms and to avoid the side effects of conventional medication, especially, moxibustion has confirmed as an effective, convenient, and safe treatment for various types of menstrual pain. The purpose of this study is to systematically assess the effect and safety of moxibustion for treating PD. ⋯ The following databases will be searched from their inception to December 2019: PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Wan-Fang Databases, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Citation Information by National Institute of Informatics, Chinese Scientific Journal Database. Two reviewers will search these databases, select data and evaluate the quality of studies separately. The methodological quality will be measured by the Cochrane risk of bias tool. The primary outcome is the pain degree evaluation including visual analog scale, numerical visual scale, verbal rating scale, Cox retrospective symptom scale, or any other scale used to evaluate the level of pain. And the response rate involved overall reduction in symptoms. The adverse effects, quality of life will be assessed as secondary outcomes. Risk ratio for dichotomous data and mean differences with a 95% confidence interval for continuous data will be adopted to express the effect and safety of moxibustion for PD.

The efficacy and safety of Chinese herbal medicine Shen-Qi Hua-Yu formula in patients with diabetic lower extremity artery disease: Study protocol of a multi-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
Lower extremity artery disease (LEAD) is greatly harmful to Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an alternative therapy to delay the development of macrovascular diseases, but the existing evidence of its efficacy, safety and mechanism of action is insufficient. We report a study protocol of a multi-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial that aims to use well-designed clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) Shen-Qi Hua-Yu formula, and to explore efficacy mechanism of the TCM granules and the biomarkers of TCM syndrome. ⋯ This study is a multi-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of CHM in patients with diabetic LEAD, and to interpret the therapeutic mechanism of Shen-Qi Hua-Yu formula in treatment of diabetic LEAD through proteomics technology, and to screen biomarkers with characteristics of TCM diagnosis and clinical efficacy evaluation. On the other hand, to our knowledge, this study may be the first trial of CHM formulas to observe cardiovascular outcomes through long-term follow-up for the treatment of diabetic LEAD, which is of great value.

Pregnancy-related low back pain (PLPB) and pelvic pain (PP) are common in pregnancy. In spite of its high prevalence rate, treatment of the disorder is a challenging topic. Women commonly utilize complementary exercise therapies such as yoga, motor control exercises, breathing exercises, core stability exercise, pelvic stability exercise, and so on to manage their symptoms. However, it is currently unknown whether exercise produces more beneficial effects than other treatment in patients with PLPB and PP. The aim of this study is to explore the therapeutic effect of exercise for pregnancy-related low back pain and PP. ⋯ PROSPERO CRD 42017075099.
