Intracranial solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) and hemangiopericytomas (HPCs) are rare spindle cell tumors of mesenchymal origin that include benign and malignant neoplasms. ⋯ Intracranial SFTs/HPCs are rare mesenchymal neoplasms that are challenging to manage. If the imaging characteristics of tumor are not typical, clinicians should depend on tissue biopsy and immunohistochemistry to make a definitive diagnosis.

Kidney stone is caused by abnormal accumulation of crystalline substances in the kidneys. Kidney stone is one of the urinary system diseases with a high incidence. In this study, we will use the research method of randomized controlled trials to explore the effects of Traditional Chinese medicine combined with western medicine on renal function and urine metabolism in women with kidney stones. We hope that the results of this study will provide more evidence-based medical evidence for TCM to treat kidney stones, and also provide patients with more treatment options. ⋯ This trial may provide evidence regarding the clinical effectiveness, safety, and cost-effectiveness of Traditional Chinese medicine for patients with Female kidney stone.

Pleural effusion (PE) remains insurmountable challenge and public health problem, requiring novel noninvasive biomarkers for accurate diagnosis. The aim of this study was to assess the clinical significance of apolipoprotein E (Apo-E) in PE, in order to determine its potential use as a diagnostic biomarker for malignant PE (MPE). PE samples were obtained from 127 patients and the etiology of PE was determined by multiple diagnostic techniques. ⋯ In conclusion, Apo-E levels in PE may be a potential biomarker for the detection of MPE. The combined detection of Apo-E and CEA could improve the diagnostic sensitivity and specificity for MPE. These findings provide a simple and convenient method for clinical screening and detection of PE.

Carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) is a tumor glycolipid, frequently elevated in the serum of patients due to malignancies from gastrointestinal organs; in particular, the pancreas. This carbohydrate antigen is also expressed in benign diseases. ⋯ In this case, we can learn that the F-FDG PET/CT scan has potential use in patients with unknown origin of elevation CA 19-9.

Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) can be complicated with Crohn disease (CD). Irritable bowel disease (IBD) associated with MDS has already been reported in the past; however, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is rarely performed. Herein, we report a case of CD with MDS for HSCT. ⋯ The number of cases of CD combined with MDS remains insufficient, and no consensus opinions are available to date. Hence, HSCT is a very potential treatment method. Additional experiences are needed to determine its effectiveness.
