VerifyNow (VN; Accumetrics, San Diego, CA) P2Y12 reaction unit (PRU) has an inverse relation with hemoglobin level (Hb). Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with low response to clopidogrel and low Hb. Our aim is to investigate the relation between PRU and Hb, and to assess whether Hb directly affects PRU or not in patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis (HD). ⋯ PRU was higher regardless of lower Hb in CKD on HD patients than normal renal function patients. Therefore, Hb was not crucial factor to decide PRU in CKD on HD patients in this study.

Effect of continuous nursing care based on the IKAP theory on the quality of life of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: A randomized controlled study.
To explore the effect of continuous nursing care based on the Information, Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (IKAP) theory on the quality of life of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). ⋯ Continuous nursing care based on Information, Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice theory improved quality of scores at 3 months after intervention among COPD patients. Given limitations of the study, future large-scale studies are needed to validate our results.

Osteoporosis is an important cause of bone fractures and even a cause of threaten to the lives of elderly people. Mind-body exercises are beneficial interventions for improving flexibility, controlling body balance, and reducing pain. To assess the effect of mind-body exercise on osteoporosis in aging people, we will perform this systematic review. ⋯ Evidence from this systematic review could be useful for patients, clinical practitioners, and guideline-makers to select an optimum proposal of mild-body exercises for older adults with osteoporosis.

To investigate the accuracy of computed tomography (CT) in evaluating spinal epidural adipose tissue compared to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). CT scan images and matched magnetic resonance images of total 368 patients between July 2014 and July 2016 were evaluated. Hounsfield units (HU) of epidural fat (EF), dural sac (DuS), ligamentum flavum, bone of facet joints, and paraspinal muscles were measured for comparison. ⋯ Pearson correlation coefficient analyses showed significant positive correlations between CT and MRI measurements; Bland-Altman plots also depicted satisfied agreement. Overgrowth of spinal EF was more commonly found at L2-3 and L3-4 levels in present study, and body weight, age, and gender were significantly associated with amounts of EF both on CT and MRI. The CT scan is a satisfied alternative of MRI for the evaluation of spinal epidural adipose tissue.

The roles of first phase, second phase insulin secretion, insulin resistance, and glucose effectiveness of having prediabetes in nonobese old Chinese women.
It has been established that prediabetes can causes significant comorbidities, particularly in the elderly. The deterioration of glucose metabolism are generally considered to be results of the impairment of the 4 factors: first, second insulin secretion (FPIS, SPIS, respectively), glucose effectiveness (GE), and insulin resistance. In this study, we enrolled older women to investigate their relationships with prediabetes. ⋯ Among the 4 factors, GE is the most important contributor for prediabetes in older women. By building a model composed of FPIS, SPIS, and GE, the aROC curve increased significantly. The equation built from this model could predict prediabetes precisely.
