Randomized Controlled Trial
A randomized controlled trial for prevention of acute exacerbation of stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with acupoint application of traditional Chinese medicine: Study protocol clinical trial (SPIRIT Compliant).
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major public health problem that severely affects the quality of life of patients and may even endanger their lives. Although modern medicine has achieved significant results in relieving the clinical manifestations of COPD, it is difficult to prevent its progression and acute exacerbation entirely. As one of the classic aspects of acupuncture and moxibustion therapy, acupoint application of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) can improve the clinical efficacy of western medicine in treating COPD. To date, however, there is no high-quality clinical trial to assess the effectiveness of TCM acupoint application directly in preventing acute exacerbation of stable COPD. ⋯ The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TCM acupoint application in preventing acute exacerbation of stable COPD. Our study will provide sound evidence to support the evidence-based medicine of TCM acupoint application as an additional measure in the prevention of acute exacerbation of stable COPD.

Meta Analysis
Platelet-rich plasma versus hyaluronic acid in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis: A meta-analysis.
This meta-analysis focuses on the controversial efficacy and safety of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as compared with hyaluronic acid (HA) in the clinical treatment of knee osteoarthritis. We have attempted to provide an evidence-based medicine protocol for the conservative treatment of knee osteoarthritis. In addition, we included the latest relevant literature in this meta-analysis, and a staging study was conducted to compare the therapeutic effects of PRP and HA for knee osteoarthritis over different time periods. ⋯ Compared with HA, PRP offers obvious advantages in the conservative treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Treatment with PRP can reduce long-term pain and improve knee joint function with no additional risks. Therefore, PRP can be widely used for the conservative treatment of knee osteoarthritis.

Meta Analysis
Metformin therapy and cognitive dysfunction in patients with type 2 diabetes: A meta-analysis and systematic review.
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a risk factor for cognitive dysfunction. The relationship between metformin therapy and cognitive function in patients with T2D is unknown. Therefore, we determined the relationship between metformin therapy and cognitive function in patients with T2D using a meta-analysis. ⋯ Metformin significantly improved cognitive dysfunction in patients with T2D. Sulfonylureas also improved cognitive dysfunction. Thiazolidinediones had no significant effect on cognitive dysfunction. The use of insulin aggravated cognitive dysfunction. Metformin improved cognitive dysfunction more significantly in patients in the Americas and Europe than in Asia.

Review Case Reports
Mid-lumbar traumatic spondyloptosis without neurological deficit: A case report and literature review.
Spondyloptosis is a form of vertebral dislocation and the most advanced form of spondylolisthesis. Traumatic spondyloptosis is usually caused by high-energy impact and results in unstable spine deformity and spinal canal deformation, which lead to severe spinal cord injury. Traumatic spondyloptosis is mostly reported in the lumbo-sacral junction, while it is rarely documented in mid-lumbar segments. To the best of the authors' knowledge, only 16 cases of mid-lumbar spondyloptosis have been described previously. Herein, we present a L3 to L4 spondyloptosis case that did not involve neurological deficit. ⋯ We reported an L3 to L4 traumatic spondyloptosis case that involved intact neurology, which is the first-ever reported mid-lumbar spondyloptosis case that involved complete posterior column and neural sparing. For the treatment of traumatic spondyloptosis without neurological deficit, restoring stability and preventing secondary cord injury should be taken into consideration.
