Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic systemic inflammatory disease with indefinite remission and relapse cycles, which can result in a high incidence rate of malnutrition. There has been increasing clinical interest in enteral nutrition (EN) as an adjunct treatment for CD. This report aims to present a case of a severely malnourished CD patient given EN support in combination with conventional infliximab (IFX) treatment. ⋯ The jejunal feeding tube was the starting point of her weight gain and inflammation reduction, which allowed her adequate energy. EN may be a potential complementary therapeutic strategy to manage clinical symptoms of CD and improve severe malnutrition.

Ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) is the most common treatment for idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus, a subtype of hydrocephalus characterized by gait disturbance, dementia, and urinary incontinence. However, while the malfunction of VPS is reported at a high rate, the involvement of chronic cholecystitis in shunt malfunction is rare. ⋯ To the best of our knowledge, this report is the first to reveal that shunt malfunction may result from chronic cholecystitis, which induced the presently observed intra-abdominal hypertension.

Surgical management is not a standard treatment option for metastatic recurrence of pancreatic adenocarcinoma. However, the surgical management of a solitary metastasis is useful in selected cases. ⋯ In our case, the patient with pancreatic adenocarcinoma survived for over 8 years following the resection of the primary tumor and resections of metachronous metastatic tumors. The outcome of PDA may be associated with the genetic profile that regulates its biological behavior. Operative management of solitary metastatic tumors may be a therapeutic options for selected patients with pancreatic cancer.

Neuroblastoma (NB) with MYCN amplification has a poor prognosis and high mortality. The potential molecular biological relationship between clinical features and MYCN amplification should be explored. ⋯ Given the effect of MYCN amplification on poor outcome in NB, novel treatments targeting MYCN should be developed for patients with NB.

To study the relationship between single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of the 3 primer untranslated region (UTR) variants of the cell fate determination factor Dachshund 1(DACH1) gene and the susceptibility of patients with endometrial cancer (EC). ⋯ DACH1 gene rs9529895 locus SNP is significantly related to the risk for EC and PFS of EC patients. The possible mechanism behind this relationship is that the DACH1 gene rs9529895 locus SNP affects DACH1 expression level.
