Mechanisms of traumatic cardiac arrest in Kuwait: A retrospective study.
The objective of this study is to describe the epidemiology and causes of traumatic cardiac arrest (TCA) in Kuwait aiming to provide a preliminary background to update the current guidelines and improve patients' management. This is a retrospective analysis of TCA cases retrieved from emergency medical services archived data between 1 January and 31 December 2017. The TCA cases were sub-grouped based on mechanism of injury then compared in terms of patient demographics, vital signs, patterns of injuries, resuscitation practices, and outcomes. ⋯ Head injuries are predominantly seen in RTA, FFH, slip /falls and chest injuries are seen in assaults. This can influence emergency medical services personals resuscitation plan. Further research is required to address the resuscitation of TCA of different mechanisms.

This study aimed to compare the quality of virtual low-keV monoenergetic images vs conventional images reconstructed from dual-layer spectral detector computed tomography (SDCT) for the detection of peritoneal implants of ovarian cancer. Fifty ovarian cancer patients who underwent abdominopelvic SDCT scans were included in this retrospective study. Virtual monoenergetic images at 40 (VMI40) and 50 keV (VMI50), and two conventional images were reconstructed using filtered back projection (FBP) and iterative model reconstruction (IMR) protocols. ⋯ In both readers, overall image quality and image blurring showed highest score in VMI50, while image noise and lesion conspicuity showed best score in IMR and VMI40 respectively. Inter-reader agreements are moderate to almost perfect in every parameter. The low-keV VMIs improved both quantitative assessment and lesion conspicuity of peritoneal implants from ovarian cancer compared to conventional images.

Effects of tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy on skin toxicity and skin-related quality of life in patients with lung cancer: An observational study.
Epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI) therapy is the primary treatment option for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, one of the major adverse effects associated with this therapy is skin toxicity, which impacts the patient's quality of life. This study aimed to describe the severities and locations of skin toxicity, and to analyze their association with the quality of life in patients with advanced NSCLC who received EGFR-TKI therapy as first-line treatment. ⋯ Patients who required EGFR-TKI dose reduction had experienced more severe skin symptoms than had patients who did not require it (7.35 vs 5.01, P < .001). Skin toxicity related to EGFR-TKI treatment impacts the quality of life in patients with NSCLC. During the treatment period, skin assessment and tailored management should be incorporated into the daily care plan.
