Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the commonest endocrine disorder in reproductive-aged women. In addition to the reproductive consequences, PCOS is also characterized by a metabolic disorder, which may play a part in the etiology of anovulation and has important implications for long-term health as well. Vitamin D deficiency is prevalent in PCOS and there is a close relationship between metabolic dysfunction and vitamin D status in women with PCOS. The purpose of this systematic analysis is to evaluate the effect of vitamin D supplementation on serum lipid profiles in patients with PCOS. ⋯ INPLASY202050007.

A simple new scoring system for predicting the mortality of severe acute pancreatitis: A retrospective clinical study.
It is critical to accurately identify patients with severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) in a timely manner. This study aimed to develop a new simplified AP scoring system based on data from Chinese population. We retrospectively analyzed a consecutive series of 585 patients diagnosed with SAP at the Changhai hospital between 2009 and 2017. ⋯ Further, the accuracy of predicting pancreatic infection with CSSS was the highest (0.634), similar to that of MCTSI (0.641). A new prognostic scoring system for SAP was derived and validated in a Chinese sample. This scoring system is a simple and accurate method for prediction of mortality.

Analysis of risk factors associated bowel resection in patients with incarcerated groin hernia.
Incarcerated groin hernia (IGH) is a common surgical emergency. However, there are few accurate and applicable predictors for differentiating patients with strangulated groin hernia from those with IGH. In this study, we aimed to identify the independent risk factors for bowel resection in patients with IGH. ⋯ In this study, an elevated NLR and those with bowel obstruction are associated with an increased risk of bowel resection among patients with IGH. Based on our findings, surgeons should prioritize prompt emergency surgical repair for patients who present with elevated NLR and bowel obstruction concurrent with IGH.

Limb synovial sarcoma (LSS) patients with metastasis at presentation usually have a very poor prognosis. Little is known about survival prediction and risk factors in these patients owing to the condition's rarity. Thus, this study examined the survival and prognostic variables of metastatic LSS. ⋯ The 3-year overall and cancer-specific survival rates of the entire group were 27.2% and 28.3%, respectively. Tumor size <10 cm, surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy were independent predictors of improved overall and cancer-specific survival in the multivariate analyses. Comprehensive treatment for LSS patients with metastasis at diagnosis is necessary and effective and can prolong survival.

Incidence and mortality trend of congenital heart disease at the global, regional, and national level, 1990-2017.
Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most commonly diagnosed congenital disorder in newborns. The incidence and mortality of CHD vary worldwide. A detailed understanding of the global, regional, and national distribution of CHD is critical for CHD prevention. ⋯ The incidence of CHD remained stable over the last 3 decades, suggesting little improvement in CHD prevention strategies and highlighting the importance of etiological studies. The mortality of CHD decreased worldwide, albeit the greatly geographical heterogeneity. Developing countries located in Africa and Asia deserve more attention and priority in the global CHD prevention program.
