Observational Study
The association between mastication and mild cognitive impairment in Korean adults.
Currently, a few of studies revealed that there is an association between mastication and cognitive impairment. There is no study of Korean adult representative samples in relation to mastication and cognitive decline. This study was to investigate the relationship between mastication and mild cognitive impairment in Korean adults. ⋯ In the participants who did not wear dentures, the reduction of chewing function was strongly correlated with mild cognitive impairment (OR = 3.97, 95% CI = 3.11-5.08). Mastication was associated with mild cognitive impairment. To prevent cognitive decline, health specialists should pay more attention to the decline of the mastication in people without dentures.

To evaluate the efficacy and safety of high viscosity bone cement in the percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) for treatment of single-level osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. Eighty patients were enrolled in this study. All patients were received PVP, and they were divided into 2 groups according to the viscosity of bone cement, either high viscosity bone cement (HV group) or low viscosity cement (LV group). ⋯ However, the correction of AVH showed no significant differences between the 2 groups and no significant loss of AVH was observed in 2 groups. High-viscosity and low-viscosity PVP have the similar effects in improving quality of life and relieving pain. There were lower cement leakage rate and less patients of severe leakage in the PVP with high-viscosity bone cement.

Myopia is a common visual disorder which has become a public health problem worldwide. Myopia and high myopia are substantial risk factors for severe visual impairment and other serious eye diseases. Acupuncture used to prevent and control myopia is a common practice in China, but it is controversial in other countries. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture in delaying the progression of myopia in children and adolescents through systematic evaluation. ⋯ The conclusion of this study will provide evidence for evaluating the efficacy and safety of acupuncture to delay the progression for myopia in children and adolescents.

This study aimed to further understand the role of relative telomere length (RTL) in susceptibility to gastric carcinoma (GC) and investigate the association between genetic polymorphisms in the telomere length related genes and GC risk. RTL was measured using the real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction from 1000 patients and 1100 healthy controls. Genotyping was performed using the Agena MassARRAY platform. ⋯ The association analysis of telomere length and GC showed that the RTL in the case group was shorter than in the controls, and the shorter RTL was associated with an increased risk of GC. The association analysis between telomere length related genes polymorphisms and genetic susceptibility to GC indicated that: In the allele models and genetic models, TERT (rs10069690, rs2242652 and rs2853676) and TN1F1 (rs7708392 and rs10036748) were significantly associated with an increased risk of GC. In addition, the haplotype 'Grs10069690Crs2242652" of TERT and the haplotype 'Grs7708392Trs10036748" of TNIP1 were associated with an increased risk of GCOur results suggested that shorter RTL was associated with an increased risk of GC; The association analysis have identified that the TERT (rs10069690, rs2242652 and rs2853676) and TN1P1 (rs7708392 and rs10036748) were associated with GC risk.
