Spinal anesthesia for cesarean section in a super morbidly obese parturient: A case report.
The population of obese individuals is increasing worldwide, and as a result, the number of mothers with super morbid obesity undergoing cesarean sections is also increasing. However, little is known about which anesthetic technique is appropriate for cesarean sections of super morbidly obese parturients. ⋯ There is no established strategy for selecting a method of anesthesia in patients with morbid obesity (body mass index 40 kg/m or more). For this reason and considering the amount of bupivacaine used for spinal anesthesia, we wanted to share our experience with spinal anesthesia for cesarean section in a super morbidly obese parturients.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an idiopathic, chronic inflammatory disease of the colonic mucosa. Herb-partitioned moxibustion (HPM) treatment has been demonstrated to be effective in the treatment of UC. However, there is still a lack of high-quality evidence to support the effectiveness and safety of HPM on patients with UC. This study will aim to systematically explore the efficacy of HPM for the treatment of UC. ⋯ The conclusion of our systematic review will provide more appropriate evidence-based decisions to assist clinicians during the decision-making process when dealing with UC.

C-terminal binding protein-2 (CtBP2) a transcriptional corepressor, has been reported to involve in tumorigenesis and progression and predict a poor prognosis in several human cancers. However, few studies on CtBP2 in lung cancer tissues have been performed. In the present study, we first explored the CtBP2 gene expression profile from the the cancer genome atlas (TCGA) datasets, then western blot analysis and immunohistochemistry were performed to investigate and verified whether lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) tissues exhibit deregulated CtBP2 expression. ⋯ CtBP2 expression was significantly correlated with LUAD patients' survival (P = .028). In conclusion, the present study revealed that CtBP2 protein is a novel prognostic marker for LUAD. A further large-scale study is needed to confirm the present results.

Retinol binding protein 4 (RBP4), as an adipokine, has been identified to be associated with several types of cancer. However, no studies have assessed its effect on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) risk. The objective of this study was to assess the association between serum RBP4 levels and the risk of NSCLC. ⋯ No interactions were observed after stratified analyses by body mass index and smoking status (P for interaction: .584 and .357). Our study indicated that serum RBP4 level was positively related to the risk of NSCLC. Additional studies with prospective design are required to confirm this finding.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential prognostic value of preoperative lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) and establishment of a prognostic nomogram in post surgical patients with gallbladder carcinoma (GBC). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to determine the optimal cut-off value of LMR. The correlation between preoperative LMR and overall survival (OS) was analyzed using univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses. ⋯ The results of the univariate and multivariate analyses eliminated the degree of tumor differentiation, tumor-node-metastasis stages, surgery types, and LMR as independent predictors of OS. Based on those independent predictors, a predictive nomogram for OS was generated with an accuracy of 0.848. Based on our findings, the predictive nomogram should be included in the routine assessment of GBC patients.
