Type 2 diabetes (T2DM), which is the major type of diabetes, accounts for more than 90% of all case of diabetes, and its pathogenesis remains inconclusive. Recent studies have revealed a significant role of gut microbiota in the onset and development of T2DM. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has accumulated rich clinical experience in the treatment of T2DM for thousands of years and a large amount of studies have shown that TCM has the capacity of lowering blood glucose and modulating gut microbiota. The aim of this systematic review is to evaluate all randomized controlled trials on TCM for gut microbiota to assess the effectiveness and safety of TCM in T2DM patients. ⋯ CRD42020188043.

Aspirin might reduce the incidence of breast cancer: An updated meta-analysis of 38 observational studies.
Many epidemiologic studies were performed to clarify the protective effect of regular aspirin use on breast cancer risks, but the results remain inconsistent. Here, we conducted an updated meta-analysis of 38 studies to quantitatively assess the association of regular aspirin use with risk of breast cancer. ⋯ Our study suggested that aspirin use might be associated with a reduced risk of breast cancer, particularly for reducing the risk of hormone receptor positive tumors or in situ breast tumors, and the risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a potentially fatal disease. clinical practice shows that Chinese Patent Medicine (CPM) has played an important role in the outbreak, Among them, Jinhua Qinggan granules, Lianhua Qingwen capsule, and Xuebiqing injection have an effect in treating COVID-19 patients, but it has not been systematically evaluated for efficacy and safety. We provide a protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis. ⋯ This study will provide evidence of CPM (including Jinhua Qinggan granule, Lianhua Qingwen capsule, and Xuebiqing injection) for the treatment on COVID-19 patients.INPLASY Registration number: INPLASY202050050.

Smoking is well-known to increase cancer risk, particularly risk of lung cancer, and negatively affects efficacy of cancer treatment. However, recent evidence suggests that among cancer patients, paradoxically, smokers respond to treatment better than non-smokers. We propose to conduct a focused review and meta-analysis to compare response to drug treatment between smoking and non-smoking cancer patients. ⋯ The results will clarify whether smoking and response to treatment of cancer are linked not. Our results may possibly identify drug/s that work better among cancer patients who are smokers.
