Liver transplantation has become a routine operation in many transplantation centers worldwide. However, liver graft availability fails to meet patient demands. Split liver transplantation (SPLT), which divides a deceased donor liver into 2 partial liver grafts, is a promising strategy for increasing graft availability for transplantation and ameliorating organ shortage to a certain degree. ⋯ This information might help provide an optimal strategy for implementing SPLT for 2 adult recipients among current transplantation societies. Meanwhile, potential obstacles to SPLT might be overcome in the near future with growing knowledge, experience, and refinement of surgical techniques. Ultimately, the widespread diffusion of SPLT may increase graft availability and mitigate organ donation shortages.

Automated systems have been developed to reduce labor-intensive manual recordings during nosocomial infection surveillance. The diagnostic accuracies of these systems have differed in various settings. ⋯ Our review suggests that electronic surveillance is useful for diagnosing CAUTIs among hospitalized patients in tertiary care hospitals due to its high sensitivity and specificity.

Clinical characteristics and course of sporadic non-ampullary duodenal adenomas: A multicenter retrospective study.
Sporadic non-ampullary duodenal adenoma (SNADA) is a rare disease, and therefore, its clinical characteristics have not been comprehensively investigated. Furthermore, owing to the high complication rates and severity of endoscopic resection, treatment strategies vary among facilities. In the present study, we aimed to clarify the clinical characteristics and course of SNADA. ⋯ In the endoscopic resection group, en bloc resection was achieved in 78% of patients. However, the complication rate for perforation was 7%, and endoscopic submucosal dissection was associated with a 36% perforation rate. With the low incidence of cancer development and no disease specific death, the strategy of initially not performing resection could be considered especially for the older adults, poor-prognosis patients, or small lesions.

Administering corticosteroid is an effective therapeutic strategy for treating most inflammatory conditions. However, there is a chance for corticosteroid treatment to adversely affect bones, resulting in corticosteroid-induced osteoporosis, which is a highly prevalent type of secondary osteoporosis. Elevated bone resorption and reduced formation of bone are pathogenesis indicators of corticosteroid-induced osteoporosis. Preventative therapy is recommended for patients initiating steroids. This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of calcium and vitamin D in treating adults diagnosed with osteoporosis caused by corticosteroid therapy. ⋯ Aug 19, 2021. osf.io/zvb38.
