Data from a direct comparison of the long-term survival outcomes of surgical resection (SR) or radiofrequency ablation (RFA) versus transarterial therapy in Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP)-class A patients with a single small T1/T2 stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (≤3 cm) are still lacking. This study retrospectively compared the therapeutic outcomes of these treatment types for CTP-A patients with a single small HCC. Using a nationwide Korean registry, we identified 2314 CTP-A patients with SR (n = 722), RFA (n = 731), or transarterial therapy (n = 861) for a single (≤3 cm) T1/T2 stage HCC from 2008 to 2014. ⋯ The cumulative OSs between RFA and transarterial therapy were statistically comparable in patients with a 2 to 3 cm HCC and aged ≥65 years, respectively. For all subjects, the weighted Cox proportional hazards model using IPW provided the adjusted hazard ratios (95% confidence interval) for the OS after SR versus transarterial therapy and after RFA versus transarterial therapy of 0.42 (0.30-0.60) (P < .001) and 0.78 (0.61-0.99) (P = .044), respectively. In CTP-A patients with a single (≤3 cm) T1/T2 HCC, SR or RFA provides a better OS than transarterial therapy, regardless of the HCC etiology (hepatitis B virus or hepatitis C virus), especially in patients with HCC of <2 cm and aged <65 years.

Our study aimed to investigate the relative workload that is related to the injury in lower extremities of female field hockey players and to identify the optimal ratio of acute to chronic workloads (ACWR) depending on the playing position to manage low risk of sports-related injuries. Data were collected using a global positioning systems unit on a full-time basis and during competition among 52 players who were enrolled in Korea National Team. The ACWR was calculated by dividing the most recent 1 week workload by the prior 4 weeks workload. ⋯ In striker and midfielder, the injury risk was the lowest in the moderate-low category of total distance covered, meters per minute (MpM), repeated high-intensity effort bouts, and acceleration bouts, and the moderate-high category of high-intensity running distance (HID). The injury risk of a defender was the lowest in the moderate-low category of HID and MpM. The ACWR in total distance covered, MpM, repeated high-intensity effort bouts, and acceleration bouts should stay within the moderate-low category in striker and midfielder positions and HID and MpM in defender positions in order to manage low-risk of non-contact and soft tissue injuries in female field hockey players.

Reported associations of the cannabinoid receptor 1 (CNR1) single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with alcohol dependence (AD) have been inconsistent, prompting a meta-analysis to obtain more precise estimates. ⋯ Three CNR1 SNPs (rs1535255, rs2023239, and rs806379) were implicated in their associations with development of AD: based on aggregate statistical power, rs1535255 presented greater evidence for associations than rs2023239; rs806379 implicated the Caucasian subgroup. Multiple statistical and meta-analytical features (consistency, robustness, and high significance) underpinned the strengths of these outcomes. Our findings could render the CNR1 polymorphisms useful in the clinical genetics of AD.

Observational study of an inpatient program for musculoskeletal disorders: The effects of gender and physical activity.
A new inpatient secondary preventive program for patients with musculoskeletal health problems was introduced throughout Austria. The aim of the current work was to evaluate this "Health Prevention Active" program and its possible influences on the quality of medical results upon hospital discharge. This observational study presents monocentric data for 7448 patients (48.99 ± 6.15 years; 53.7% women) with chronic musculoskeletal disorders who completed a 3-week health program. ⋯ Requirements for secondary prevention programs are high. The results of the study reflect the general problems presented by inactivity, obesity, and subjective symptoms like pain. Physical activity was specifically identified as a major factor for the observed medical baseline status.

Enteral administration of alectinib for ALK-positive non-small cell lung cancer in an elderly patient: A case report.
Alectinib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) approved for use as first-line metastatic therapy for patients with anaplastic lymphoma kinase-rearranged non-small cell lung cancer. Certain medical conditions related to the tumor lesions may not allow oral administration of TKIs. ⋯ In cases of lung cancer with oncogenic addiction, enteral administration of TKIs should be considered for elderly patients with an impaired general condition.
