The aim of this study was to compare the clinical efficacy of azithromycin and ceftizoxime (AC) and erythromycin and amoxicillin/sulbactam (EAS) in the treatment of children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP). In this retrospective study, a total of 92 eligible children with MPP were included, and they were divided into a treatment group (n = 46) and a control group (n = 46). All patients were treated with intravenous ambroxol, and nebulized inhalation of budesonide and terbutaline. ⋯ After treatment, patients who received AC exerted better improvements in erythrocyte sedimentation rate (P < .01), C-reactive protein (P < .01), serum lactate dehydrogenase (P < .01), interleukin 6 (P < .01), fever clearance time (P < .01), time of cough disappearance (P < .01), time of rale disappearance (P < .01), and time of signs disappeared by X-ray (P < .01), than those in patients who received EAS. In addition, there were not significant differences in adverse events between 2 groups. The results of this study showed that AC may benefit more than EAS for the children with MPP.

Influence of genetic variants of opioid-related genes on opioid-induced adverse effects in patients with lung cancer: A STROBE-compliant observational study.
Despite the dramatic advancement of cancer chemotherapy and immunotherapy, the insufficient progress has been made in basic or translational research on personalization of opioid therapy. Predicting the effectiveness of opioid analgesic therapy and the risk of adverse effects prior to therapy are expected to enable safer and more appropriate opioid therapy for cancer patients. In this study, we compared the incidence of opioid-induced adverse effects between patients with different variants of the genes related to responsiveness to opioid analgesics. ⋯ Analysis of OPRM1 gene variant status (Asn133Asp A > G) showed that G/G homozygotes were at significantly lower risk of somnolence compared with A allele carriers (0% vs 28.4%; Fisher exact test, P = .005; OR, 0; 95% CI, 0-0.6), and analysis of COMT gene variant status (Val158Met, G > A) showed that G/G homozygotes were at significantly higher risk of somnolence compared with A allele carriers (35.0% vs 10.4%; Fisher exact test, P = .008; OR, 4.5; 95% CI, 1.4-18.1). No relationship between variant status and adverse effects was found for the other genes. These findings demonstrate that OPRM1 and COMT gene variants influence the risk of somnolence as an adverse effect of opioid analgesic therapy.

The pathogenesis of human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV-1) infection is so complex that have not been clearly defined, despite intensive efforts have been made by many researchers. MicroRNA (miRNA) as regulation factor in various human diseases may influence the course of HIV-1 infection by targeting mRNAs. Thus, studies combining transcription of posttranscriptional miRNA regulation are required. ⋯ In our study, a set of integrated methods was generated to identify important regulators and miRNA-TF-mRNA interactions. Parallel profiling analysis of the miRNAs and mRNAs expression of HIV/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) patients after antiretroviral therapy indicated that some regulators have wide impact on gene regulation and that these regulatory elements may bear significant implications on the underlying molecular mechanism and pathogenesis of AIDS occurrence.

Pathologic complete response to neoadjuvant anti-HER2 therapy is associated with HER2 immunohistochemistry score in HER2-positive early breast cancer.
To evaluate whether pathologic complete response (pCR) to neoadjuvant anti-human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) therapy is dependent on the HER2 immunohistochemistry (IHC) score. A total of 181 HER2-positive early breast cancer patients who had received neoadjuvant anti-HER2 therapy were included in this study. Associations were examined between IHC score and tumor pCR status (commonly defined by ypT0+ypN0, ypT0/is+ypN0, or ypT0/is). ⋯ The pCR rate was highly correlated with the HER2 IHC score in neoadjuvant anti-HER2 treatment. The addition of pertuzumab to a neoadjuvant trastuzumab-based regimen improved pCR rates, but there was no significant difference in pCR rates in the IHC 2+/FISH-positive group. This suggests that HER2 IHC scores can predict the effectiveness of treatment.

IgA vasculitis mimicking drug-induced skin reaction and infectious colitis in an elderly patient: A case report.
Immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgAV) in adults is rare and shows worse symptoms and prognosis. In real-life clinics, IgAV in elderly patients may be difficult to diagnose because of its rarity and other common diseases to consider. This study reports a case of IgAV mimicking drug-induced skin reaction in an elderly patient. ⋯ We present a case of adult-onset IgAV, which was initially diagnosed with infectious colitis and drug eruption. The history of skin reaction development after antibiotic treatment and the rarity of IgAV in elderly patients masked the diagnosis of IgAV. Despite its rarity, IgAV should be highly suspected in elderly patients with rashes, proteinuria, and signs of colitis.
