Enteral nutrition (EN) therapy is a routine supportive method for patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). However, the incidence of EN intolerance is prevalent, because most ICU patients suffer intestinal mucosal barrier damage and gastrointestinal motility disorder. There is no definite index to predict EN intolerance, and the current treatment methods are not effective in alleviating EN intolerance. Gut microbiota is an important component of the intestinal micro-ecological environment, and alterations in its structure and composition can reflect changes in intestinal function and microenvironment. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of EN on the gut microbiota of ICU patients by monitoring the dynamic alterations of gut microbiota and to screen out the microbial markers that can be used to predict the incidence of EN intolerance. ⋯ The effect of EN on gut microbiota and microbial markers predicting the intolerance of EN will lead us to develop a new nutrition intervention strategy for ICU patients. Furthermore, the results of this study will provide a basis for the discovery of potential probiotics used for the prevention and treatment of EN intolerance.

Endodontic mishaps during root canal treatment performed by undergraduate dental students: An observational study.
Endodontic mishaps during root canal treatment (RCT) are considered to be one of the most commonly encountered errors, which affect the quality of treatment and may have dangerous health implications for patients. The present study was conducted to assess the frequency and types of endodontic mishaps in root canal-treated teeth performed by undergraduate dental students. A total 404 endodontically treated teeth were performed by undergraduate dental students of King Khalid University College of Dentistry, Abha, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. ⋯ The majority of endodontic mishaps found in the study sample were related to root canal obturation. The undergraduate students at level 9 were less proficient in conducting RCTs with many endodontic mishaps when compared to the cases performed by students at higher levels. The study suggests relevant guidance for dental students while performing RCTs, especially during obturation of the root canals.

Osteoarthritis (OA) has been identified as a common musculoskeletal condition. As a chronic condition, OA adversely impact the hip and knee joints. Surgical treatment for hip and knee osteoarthritis is associated with high financial and long recovery processes. Therefore, patients are continually searching for alternative methods of treatment. Diacerein is regarded as symptom-modifying, slow-acting drug that could most likely change the disease structure of OA. The present systematic review protocol explains methods utilized to evaluate the clinical therapeutic effects of combining diacerein and glucosamine to treat OA. ⋯ The summary presented in the study will ascertain whether diacerein plus glucosamine intervention is an efficient and feasible method of treatment for OA patients.

In recent years, many clinical studies have suggested that various Chinese patent medicines have the potential to treat functional dyspepsia (FD). This study aims to conduct a systematic review and Bayesian network meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of different Chinese patent medicines for FD. ⋯ This study aims to provide new options for Chinese patent medicine treatment of FD in terms of its efficacy and safety.

Herbal medicines combined with radiotherapy significantly reduced the incidence of radiation pneumonitis (RP), and the Scutellaria barbata D. Don (SBD) is a perennial herb that has been reported to protect against radiation-induced pneumonitis. However, the exact molecular mechanism is not known. The objective of this research was to investigate the against radiation pneumonitis ingredients and their functional mechanisms in SBD. ⋯ In our study, the pharmacological and molecular mechanism of SBD against RP was predicted from a holistic perspective, and the results provided theoretical guidance for researchers to explore the mechanism in further research.
