Meta Analysis
Circulating microRNA-208 family as early diagnostic biomarkers for acute myocardial infarction: A meta-analysis.
Many recent studies have demonstrated that serum miRNA-208 (miR-208) could be a powerful biomarker in the early diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). However, the result of previous studies was not accurate due to the small sample sizes and controversial issues. Therefore, this study was performed to investigate the relationship between the expression levels of miR-208 and AMI. ⋯ The results showed that circulating miR-208 was a reliable biomarker both for diagnosting ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). MiR-208 was sufficient to distinguish AMI patients with chest pain from healthy controls.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a non-malignant enlargement of the prostate gland that is common in older men. The clinical manifestations of BPH are frequent urination, urgency, incomplete dribbling of urine, and urinary retention. Moxibustion, as a convenient, safe and effective method, has been widely applied in the clinical treatment of BPH. The study aim to assess the efficacy and safety of moxibustion for BPH. ⋯ The conclusion of this study will provide the latest evidence for judging whether moxibustion is effective and safe in the treatment of BPH.

Preoperative hypoalbuminemia from malnutrition is associated with increased morbidity and mortality after geriatric hip fracture surgery. However, little is known regarding the correlation between postoperative hypoalbuminemia and mortality. This study aimed to evaluate whether postoperative hypoalbuminemia could predict 1-year mortality after intertrochanteric femoral fracture surgery in elderly patients. ⋯ The non-survival group showed a significantly increased incidence of postoperative hypoalbuminemia (95.4% vs 80.0%, P = .015) and intensive care unit admission (11.6% vs 2.7%, P = .020), older age (82.5 ± 5.8 years vs 80.0 ± 7.2 years, P = .032), lower body mass index (20.1 ± 3.2 kg/m2 vs 22.4 ± 3.8 kg/m2, P < .001), and increased amount of transfusion of perioperative red blood cells (1.79 ± 1.47 units vs 1.43 ± 2.08 units, P = .032), compared to the survival group. This study demonstrated that postoperative hypoalbuminemia is a potent predictor of 1-year mortality in geriatric patients undergoing intertrochanteric femoral fracture surgery. Therefore, exogenous albumin administration can be considered to improve postoperative outcomes and reduce the risk of mortality after surgery for geriatric hip fracture.

To compare the efficacy and safety of calcineurin inhibitor (CNI) and Tripterygium wilfordii polyglycoside tablets (TWPs) in treating idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN) with CNI and glucocorticoids (GCs). Data of patients with IMN who were treated with CNI+TWPs (TWP group) or CNI+GCs (GC group) and followed up for more than 12 months at the Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from 2017 to 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. The 24-h urine protein (24hUP), serum albumin (ALB), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), serum creatinine, alanine aminotransferase, and aspartate transaminase levels on the third, sixth, ninth, and twelfth months of treatment and phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) level before and after treatment were compared in both groups. ⋯ During treatment, no patient in either group had hepatorenal dysfunction, one case in the TWP group and two cases in the GC group experienced side effects, but no apparent difference in the side effects were observed between both groups (P > .05). Two therapeutic schemes have the advantage of reducing urinary protein excretion in patients with IMN. Compared with CNI+GCs, CNI+TWPs have high efficiency and is widely applied, which might be considered as an optimum therapy in the future.

Human parvovirus B19 (B19V) is a non-enveloped single-stranded DNA virus associated with a variety of human diseases. Reports of B19V infection after cardiac transplantation are relatively rare. ⋯ Patients with parvovirus B19V infection may develop severe anemia after heart transplantation. The diagnosis mainly relies on viral DNA detection. Intravenous immunoglobulin is an effective treatment for viral infection.
