Case Reports
Quantitative assessment of macular function after surgery for optic disc pit maculopathy: A case report.
We describe a case of optic disc pit maculopathy (ODP-M) in which vitrectomy with juxtapapillary laser (JPL) treatment led to the reattachment of retinoschisis (RS) as well as serous retinal detachment (SRD). ⋯ In conclusion, vitrectomy with JPL treatment for ODP-M had a favorable anatomical outcome as well as a long-term functional outcome. These findings provide useful information for clinicians who are planning a therapeutic strategy, including the choice of surgical procedure for ODP-M.

Prediction of renal function improvement in azotemic patients using glomerular filtration rate from 99mTc-DTPA renal scan: An observational study.
This study aimed to evaluate the ratio of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) from 99mTc-diethylenetriamine-pentaacetic acid dynamic renal scan (GFRSCAN) to estimated GFR (eGFR) as a predictor of renal function improvement in patients with azotemia. A retrospective review of medical records was conducted to identify consecutive patients with newly discovered or aggravated azotemia who underwent 99mTc-diethylenetriamine-pentaacetic acid renal scan. Significant renal function improvement was defined as ≥100% and ≥10 mL/min improvement of eGFR at 12 weeks compared to eGFR on the day of renal scan (eGFR0). ⋯ The addition of the GFRSCAN/eGFR0 ratio to the best clinical prediction model raised the area under the ROC curve from 0.726 to 0.794, and this increment was statistically significant (P = .02). The GFRSCAN/eGFR ratio can predict renal function improvement in patients with azotemia. Future prospective studies are necessary to validate its potential clinical utilities.

Development and validation of a prediction model for malignant pulmonary nodules: A cohort study.
This study is to develop and validate a preoperative prediction model for malignancy of solitary pulmonary nodules. Data from 409 patients who underwent solitary pulmonary nodule resection at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, China between June 2018 and December 2020 were retrospectively collected. Then, the patients were nonrandomly split into a training cohort and a validation cohort. ⋯ The calibration curves showed good agreement between the predicted risk by the nomogram and real outcomes. We have developed and validated a preoperative prediction model for MPNs. The model could aid physicians in clinical treatment decision making.

Efficacy and safety of bismuth quadruple regimens containing tetracycline or furazolidone for initial eradication of Helicobacter pylori.
Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) infection can cause chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, and even gastric cancer, so effective eradication is critical. This study compared the efficacy and safety of bismuth quadruple regimens including either tetracycline or furazolidone for initial eradication. Patients newly diagnosed with H pylori infection from January 2020 to January 2021 were randomly assigned to receive either the tetracycline-containing regimen (n = 116) or furazolidone-containing regimen (n = 168). ⋯ Eradication rates did not differ significantly between regimens (per-protocol: χ2 = 0.637, P = .517; intention-to-treat: χ2 = 0.537, P = .501). However, total adverse events incidence was significantly lower in the tetracycline group (20.2% vs 37.6%; χ2 = 9.193, P = .003). Both bismuth quadruple regimens produce high initial eradication, but the tetracycline regimen appears safer.

Chuna manual therapy (CMT) is a type of manual medicine practiced by Korean medical doctors in South Korea. Spinal diagnosis in CMT uses a system that applies manual diagnostic and X-ray tests to detect specific vertebral malpositions, based on the relative alignment across vertebral bodies. Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) programs have been developed to assist in the radiological diagnosis of CMT using X-ray images. Nevertheless, a few clinical studies have reported on the concordance between diagnosticians, diagnostics methodologies, and the use of AI programs for diagnosing CMT. At present, the evidence to support CMT diagnosis is insufficient. This study thus aims to overcome such limitations by collecting and comparing CMT diagnostic data from experts and non-experts through manual diagnosis, X-ray test, and images obtained using an AI program. The study aims to search for CMT diagnosis methods with more outstanding rationality and consistency and to explore the potential use of AI-based CMT diagnosis programs. ⋯ This trial has received complete ethical approval from the Wonkwang University Korean Medicine Hospital (IRB 2021-8). We intend to submit the results of the trial to a peer-reviewed journal and/or conferences.
