Effect of different handrail types and seat heights on kinematics and plantar pressure during STS in healthy young adults.
Handrail type and seat height both significantly influence sit-to-stand (STS) movement. However, research on the associations between handrail type, seat height, and their cumulative effect on STS kinematics and changes in plantar pressure distribution during STS under different handrail types and seat heights is insufficient. The main objective of this study was to investigate the effect of different handrail types and seat heights on the kinematics and plantar pressure in healthy adults during STS. ⋯ A significant difference was also found for the maximum trunk tilt angles (P < .001) in handrail types. There was an interaction between handrail type and seat height for the time from hindfoot to forefoot peak pressure of STS (P = .003). Using HSHH could take less time to accomplish STS movement; it also reduced the maximum trunk tilt angle and thus reduce the risk of falling; the time from hindfoot to forefoot peak pressure when using HSHH was short and subjects could accomplish STS movement easier.

Pulmonary rehabilitation improves the physical condition of patients with chronic respiratory disease; however, there are patients who cannot leave the hospital because of their low activities of daily living (ADLs), despite the completion of primary respiratory disease treatment and rehabilitation during treatment. Therefore, this study demonstrated that those patients recovered their ADLs through in-hospital pulmonary rehabilitation after treatment completion. ⋯ Physical activity, symptoms, mental health, and ADL status in patients who had not recovered after primary treatment completion for respiratory diseases could improve through in-hospital pulmonary rehabilitation.

The objective of the present study was to develop a method to measure tedizolid (TZD) concentration for studying target concentration intervention, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of TZD. We established a high-performance liquid chromatography-fluorescence detector assay to measure the TZD concentration in serum for clinical application. Chromatographic separation was carried out on a 5 μm octadecyl silane hypersil column 150 mm × 4.6 mm. ⋯ Both TZD and IS were well separated, without interference from the peaks. Sharp peaks were observed in the chromatograms; problems such as double peaks, shoulder peaks, and broadened peaks were not observed. The proposed method showed acceptable analytical performance and could be used to evaluate serum TZD concentrations in patients.

There is a paucity of osteometric standards for sex estimation from unknown skeletal remains in Jordan and the sexual dimorphism of the sternum has not yet been investigated. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sexual dimorphism in sternal measurements using 3D multidetector computed tomography (MDCT), and to assess their reliability for sex estimation in a Jordanian population. A total of 600 MDCT scans (300 males and 300 females) were used and a total of 8 sternal measurements were studied (manubrium length, sternal body length, combined length of manubrium and body, corpus sterni width at 1st and 3rd sternebrae, sternal index and area). ⋯ Notably, univariate analyses for most variables gave relatively higher classification accuracies in females but were poor at predicting males in the sample (sex bias ranged between -6.4% and -20%). Our data suggest that dimorphism in the human sternum increases with advancing age and separate discriminant functions are needed for each age group in Jordanians. In addition, multivariate and stepwise analyses using sternum gave higher classification accuracies with comparatively lower sex biases compared to univariate analyses.
