Efficacy of moxibustion in diabetes peripheral neuropathy.
Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is one of the most common complications of diabetes mellitus. The main clinical manifestations of DPN include pain, numbness, paraesthesia, and weakness of the lower limbs which often leads to diabetic foot ulceration, eventually resulting in amputation. Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, moxibustion has a great effect on treating and preventing DPN. However, randomized clinical trials done to evaluate the efficacy of this treatment are still lacking. Hence, this study is carried out to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of moxibustion therapy on diabetic peripheral neuropathy. ⋯ We hope that this trial will provide valuable insights on the efficacy of moxibustion in the management of diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (HIV-PrEP) is an effective method for preventing HIV transmission, and it is recommended in several international guidelines. Perceptions and knowledge about HIV-PrEP prescription among healthcare providers have not been investigated in Thailand where HIV-PrEP is a novel healthcare topic. The objective of study was to determine healthcare providers' attitudes towards, knowledge about, and confidence to prescribe HIV-PrEP in Thailand. ⋯ Using multivariate analysis, the factors associated with a good score result were ID physician, having HIV-PrEP prescription experience, and believing that HIV-PrEP can reduce the number of new patients. Most Thai healthcare providers (81%) reported having a positive attitude towards HIV-PrEP. Successful HIV-PrEP implementation in Thailand will require steps to mitigate the described barriers, and training for healthcare providers, which will strengthen knowledge and improve both experience with and confidence to prescribe HIV-PrEP.

Hydrocephalus is a common disease in neurosurgery. The typical symptoms of hydrocephalus include urinary incontinence, gait instability, and cognitive decline. Irritability rarely occurs in patients with hydrocephalus. Irritability rarely occurs in patients with hydrocephalus, especially in long-standing overt ventriculomegaly of adulthood (LOVA). ⋯ It is difficult to decide whether to treat LOVA when the in patients whose symptoms are not significant. We believe that early diagnosis and positive treatment can help improve outcomes and would recommend ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunting in patients with LOVA.

Viral infections, including hepatitis C, can cause secondary glomerular nephropathies. Studies suggest that hepatitis C virus infection (HCV+) is a risk factor for chronic kidney disease (CKD) but evidence of this relationship is lacking among Hispanics/Latinos. We examined the association between HCV+ and incident CKD in a prospective cohort of Hispanics/Latinos enrolled in the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos. ⋯ HCV+ was associated with a continuous, annualized eGFR decline of -0.69 mL/min/m2/year (95% CI -1.23, -0.16). This large, cohort study did not find evidence of a strong association between HCV+ and new-onset CKD among Hispanics/Latinos. HCV infection may not be associated with risk of CKD among Hispanics/Latinos, although treatment with direct-acting antivirals is recommended for all HCV+ individuals, including those with established CKD or end-stage kidney disease.

This study aimed to investigate the impact of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection on the outcome of patients with advanced solid malignancies treated with programmed death receptor-1 (PD-1) inhibitors. We retrospectively included patients treated with PD-1 inhibitors between August 2018 and April 2020. Propensity score matching (PSM) was performed to match the characteristics of the HBV and non-HBV groups. ⋯ Moreover, statistically significant differences regarding OS (P = .15) and PFS (P = .23) were also not detected after PSM. In conclusion, the HBV infection status did not impact the therapy response or prognosis of patients treated with PD-1 inhibitors. Further prospective studies are needed to corroborate these findings.
