Severe Guillain-Barré syndrome associated with chronic hepatitis B: A case report and literature review.
Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is a postinfectious autoimmune peripheral neuropathy characterized by acute paralysis of the limbs. Clinically, extrahepatic manifestations of neurologic involvement in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) are uncommon. Little attention has been paid to the relationship between GBS and CHB viral infection. ⋯ The acute exacerbation of CHB may be a potential predisposing factor for the onset of GBS. This case is a reminder to clinicians that during the acute exacerbation of CHB, patients with neurological symptoms in the limbs should be considered for potential CHB-related GBS.

To better understand the molecular mechanism underlying the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS), we aimed to identify the key genes and microRNAs (miRNA) associated with MS and analyze their interactions. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and miRNAs (DEMs) based on the gene miRNA dataset GSE17846 and mRNA dataset GSE21942 were determined using R software. Next, we performed functional enrichment analysis and constructed a protein-protein interaction network. ⋯ Protein-protein interaction network analysis identified several hub genes, including JUN, FPR2, AKT1, POLR2L, LYZ, CXCL8, HBB, CST3, CTSZ, and MMP9, especially LYZ and CXCL8. We constructed an miRNA-mRNA regulatory network and found that hsa-miR-142-3p, hsa-miR-107, hsa-miR-140-5p, and hsa-miR-613 were the most important miRNAs. This study reveals some key genes and miRNAs that may be involved in the pathogenesis of MS, providing potential targets for the diagnosis and treatment of MS.

Aspirin is widely used to prevent pregnancy related vascular disorders such as preeclampsia (PE), intrauterine growth restriction and maternal disorders. However, the indications for the use of aspirin during pregnancy is currently controversial because the dosage of aspirin used and the sample sizes in various studies differ considerably. Furthermore, women of African ancestry are more likely to have higher rates of PE and more severe cases than those of their Caucasian counterparts. Yet, there are very few studies in this population group. Therefore, the aim of this review will be to determine the effect of low-dose aspirin (LDA) for prevention of PE in women of African ancestry. ⋯ International prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSERO) number: (CRD42020213213).

Atraumatic convexity subarachnoid hemorrhage (c-SAH) concomitant with large artery atherosclerosis (LAA) stroke has been rarely discussed in the literature. Our aim in this study is to characterize the clinical and neuroradiological features of patients with LAA stroke and c-SAH. A retrospective study from a single institution was performed between January 2016 and June 2020. ⋯ Our data suggest that LAA stroke is always ipsilateral to the site of c-SAH. Severe atherosclerotic changes can also been seen in the M1 segment of MCA apart from extracranial ICA. Moreover, border zone infarction may be a specific form of infarct when c-SAH is confronted with LAA stroke.

Eosinophilic pleural effusion (EPE) is a rare phenomenon in which the etiological diagnosis remains a challenging issue; here, we present a patient who was eventually diagnosed with malignant EPE by parietal pleural biopsy. ⋯ This case presents a patient with tuberculosis who was suffering from an EPE, which was eventually diagnosed as malignant EPE based on histopathological examination through medical thoracoscopy, although multiple Thinprep cytology tests showed no evidence of malignancy, pleural biopsy is necessary to obtain an accurate etiology diagnosis.
