Antihypertensive drugs have been of significant interest to the pharmaceutical industry due to increasing sales opportunities in a global market. The financial relationships between pharmaceutical companies and the Japanese Society of Hypertension (JSH) have a possible influence on clinical practices in Japan. This study examined the distribution of pharmaceutical payments made to the authors of the revised Guidelines for the Management of Hypertension (JSH2019) and the transparency of the Conflict of Interest disclosure that each author made. ⋯ Of 74 authors required to disclose their conflict of interest (COI) the authors, one-third failed to follow the COI policy covering the clinical guidelines. Major pharmaceutical companies selling antihypertensive drug products in the Japanese market had a significant financial connection with the JSH2019 authors. Financial relationships between pharmaceutical companies and authors or Japanese medical societies are raising significant concerns about the credibility of clinical guidelines and the potentially biases and undue influences that they may cause, especially with respect to adverse prescription patterns.

Treatment effects of palliative care consultation and patient contentment: A monocentric observational study.
Palliative care is a central component of the therapy in terminally ill patients. During treatment in non-palliative departments this can be realized by consultation. To analyze the change in symptom burden during palliative care consultation. ⋯ The analysis of FAMCARE-6 patient contentment was lower or equal to two in all of the six items. There was a weak negative association between the change in symptom burden of psycho-emotional items "distress/feeling upset" (P = .006, rSp = -0,226), "sadness" and patient satisfaction in FAMCARE-6. A considerable improvement of the extensive symptom burden particularly of pain relief was achieved by integrating palliative consultation in clinical practice.

This study aimed to explore the relationship between H558R polymorphism of the SCN5A gene and atrial fibrillation (AF) in Tibetan and Han nationalities at high altitude. A total of 50 Tibetan and 50 Han patients with AF at the same altitude (2260 m) were included. Meanwhile, the general clinical data of patients without AF (50 Tibetan and 50 Han) matched with the data of patients with AF were included during the same period. ⋯ The logistic regression analysis of the total population revealed that coronary heart disease, age, total cholesterol (TC), left atrial diameter, and G allele were independent risk factors for AF occurrence. The occurrence of AF in Tibetan and Han nationalities at high altitude is associated with the polymorphism of H558R locus of the SCN5A gene. The G allele is an independent risk factor for the occurrence of AF in Tibetan and Han nationalities.

To investigate the expression pattern and diagnostic performance of matrix metalloproteinase 28 (MMP28) in pancreatic cancer (PC). The RNA-seq data of PC and normal pancreas tissue were acquired from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Genotype-Tissue Expression. Clinical information of PC that included prognostic data was obtained from TCGA. ⋯ Multivariate analysis confirmed that MMP28 was an independent risk factor in PC (hazard rate = 1.308, P = .018). Our GSEA analysis found that signaling pathways including glycolysis, p53 pathway, notch signaling, estrogen response late, cholesterol homeostasis, estrogen response early, mitotic spindle, and transforming growth factor beta signaling were enriched in the group with higher MMP28 expression. High expression of MMP28 could be identified in PC, which also served as an independent risk element for PC.

Sex-determining region-Y-related high-mobility-group box 4 (SOX4) is associated with the metastasis and prognosis of many cancer types. However, studies on the role of SOX4 in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) are few, and hence the mechanism is unclear. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) allows neoplastic cells to gain the plasticity and motility required for tumor progression and metastasis. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between SOX4 and EMT, and their relationship with clinicopathological factors and related prognosis. ⋯ In summary, SOX4 was vital in the LSCC EMT process, which might be mediated by transcription factor ZEB1. SOX4 and ZEB1 might serve as potential biomarkers of metastasis and prognosis, as well as promising therapeutic targets of LSCC.
