Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-associated mortality worldwide. Genetic factors are reported to play important roles in lung carcinogenesis. To evaluate genetic susceptibility, we conducted a hospital-based case-control study on the effects of functional single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and microRNAs on lung cancer development. ⋯ Hsa-miR-34b/c rs4938723 T > C, pri-miR-124-1 rs531564 C > G and hsa-miR-423 rs6505162 C > A SNPs were not associated with lung cancer risk. Our collective data indicated that MALAT1 rs619586 A/G SNPs significantly reduced the risk of lung cancer. Large-scale studies on different ethnic populations and tissue-specific biological characterization are required to validate the current findings.

This study investigated the expression change, prognostic values, and potential regulatory mechanisms of mortality factor on chromosome 4 (MORF4)-related gene-binding protein (MRGBP) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). MRGBP expression and clinical data from The Cancer Genome Atlas were used to evaluate the associations between MRGBP expression and clinicopathological characteristics. Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses were performed to assess the factors contributing to prognosis. ⋯ GSEA revealed the enrichment of pathways related to tumorigenesis in the MRGBP high-expression phenotype, such as cell cycle and DNA replication pathways. ssGSEA revealed that MRGBP expression was significantly correlated with 15 types of immune cell infiltration levels. The Wilcoxon rank sum test revealed significantly high T helper (Th), T follicular helper, CD56 bright natural killer, and Th2 cell enrichment scores in the high MRGBP expression group and significantly low neutrophil, Th17, dendritic cell (DC), gamma delta T, cytotoxic cell, regulatory T cell, plasmacytoid DC, and immature DC enrichment scores. MRGBP may be a novel prognostic biomarker and a therapeutic target correlated with immune infiltrates in HCC.

The tumor microenvironment (TME) plays an important role in the occurrence and development of soft tissue sarcoma (STS). A number of studies have shown that to inhibit tumor growth, the TME can be remodeled into an environment unsuitable for tumor proliferation. However, a lack of understanding exists regarding the dynamic regulation of TME. ⋯ Difference analysis and correlation analysis showed that CD8+ T cells, gamma delta T cells, monocytes, and M1 macrophages were positively correlated with PLCG2 expression, indicating that PLCG2 may represent the immune status of TME. Therefore, the level of PLCG2 may aid in determining the prognosis of STS patients, especially the status of TME. These data provide additional insights into the remodeling of TME.

Sepsis is a systemic inflammatory response caused by infection, which is a common complication after severe infection, trauma, shock, and surgery, and is also an important factor in inducing septic shock and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), and has become one of the important causes of death in critically ill patients. Septic patients with gastrointestinal transport function weakened, are prone to malnutrition, resulting in decreased immune function, thereby affecting the therapeutic effect. Clinical practice shows that the nutritional metabolism and immune response of patients with sepsis can be effectively improved by giving alanyl glutamine nutritional support treatment, but there is no evidence of evidence-based medicine. The main purpose of this study is to systematically evaluate the diagnostic value of long-chain non-coding RNA urothelial carcinoembryonic antigen 1 (lncRNA-UCA1) for bladder cancer, and to provide a scientific basis for the diagnosis of bladder cancer. ⋯ lncRNA-UCA1 has a high value of clinical auxiliary diagnosis for bladder cancer, and it can be further promoted and applied clinically.
