Measuring patient satisfaction scores and interpreting factors that impact their variation is of importance as scores influence various aspects of health care administration. Our objective was to evaluate if Press Ganey scores differ between medical specialties. New patient visits between January 2014 and December 2016 at a single tertiary academic center were included in this study. ⋯ There were no significant differences between surgical versus non-surgical specialties. Press Ganey scores systematically differ between specialties within the studied institution. These differences should be considered by healthcare systems that use patient satisfaction data to modify provider reimbursement.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-associated mortality worldwide. Genetic factors are reported to play important roles in lung carcinogenesis. To evaluate genetic susceptibility, we conducted a hospital-based case-control study on the effects of functional single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and microRNAs on lung cancer development. ⋯ Hsa-miR-34b/c rs4938723 T > C, pri-miR-124-1 rs531564 C > G and hsa-miR-423 rs6505162 C > A SNPs were not associated with lung cancer risk. Our collective data indicated that MALAT1 rs619586 A/G SNPs significantly reduced the risk of lung cancer. Large-scale studies on different ethnic populations and tissue-specific biological characterization are required to validate the current findings.

Evaluating the role of GSTP1 genetic polymorphism (rs1695, 313A>G) as a predictor in cyclophosphamide-induced toxicities.
The association between Glutathione S-transferase Pi 1(GSTP1) genetic polymorphism (rs1695, 313A>G) and cyclophosphamide-induced toxicities has been widely investigated in previous studies, however, the results were inconsistent. This study was performed to further elucidate the association. A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wan Fang database up to January 5, 2020. ⋯ In the subgroup analyses, there were significant associations between GSTP1 rs1695 polymorphism and the risk of cyclophosphamide-induced myelosuppression (RR, 2.10; 95% CI, 1.60-2.76; P < .00001), gastrointestinal toxicity (RR, 1.77; 95%CI, 1.25-2.53; P = .001), and infection (RR, 2.01; 95% CI, 1.14-3.54; P = .02) in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) or lupus nephritis syndrome patients, but not in cancer patients. Our results confirmed an essential role for the GSTP1 rs1695 polymorphism in the prediction of cyclophosphamide-induced myelosuppression, gastrointestinal toxicity, and infection in SLE or lupus nephritis syndrome patients. More studies are necessary to validate our findings in the future.

The risk of gastrointestinal hemorrhage with non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants: A network meta-analysis.
Non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) have been widely used for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation (AF) and the treatment and prevention of venous thromboembolism. There is an issue with safety, especially in clinically relevant bleeding. We performed a network meta-analysis to evaluate the risk of major gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding associated with NOACs. ⋯ Individual NOACs had varying profiles of GI bleeding risk. Results of analyses including only RCTs and those including both RCTs and population studies showed similar trends, but also showed several differences.

Concurrent vs sequential chemoradiotherapy for patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Chemotherapy in combination with thoracic radiotherapy yields significant results in patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) compared with thoracic radiotherapy alone. However, whether concurrent or sequential delivery of chemotherapy combined with thoracic radiotherapy is optimal remains unclear. Herein, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to evaluate the efficacy and safety of concurrent vs sequential chemoradiotherapy in patients with NSCLC. ⋯ Compared with sequential chemoradiotherapy, concurrent chemoradiotherapy may be significantly beneficial in terms of long-term survival and locoregional relapse, although it increases the risk of grade 3 (or greater) adverse events.
