Traditional open discectomy and intervertebral fusion surgery is the common strategy for lumbar disc herniation (LDH). However, it has the disadvantages of long recovery time and severe paravertebral soft tissue injury. Zina percutaneous screw fixation combined with endoscopic lumbar intervertebral fusion (ZELIF), as a novel minimally invasive surgical technique for LDH, has the advantages in quicker recovery, less soft tissue destruction, shorter hospital stays and less pain. We report a novel technique of ZELIF under intraoperative neuromonitoring (INM) for the treatment of LDH. ⋯ ZELIF under INM may represent a feasible, safe and effective alternative to endoscopic intervertebral fusion and percutaneous screw fixation, for decompressing the lumbar's exiting nerve root directly with minimal invasion in selected patients.

Anesthesiologists and surgeons have demonstrated a lack of familiarity with professional guidelines when providing care for surgical patients with a do-not-resuscitate (DNR) order. This substantially infringes on patient's self-autonomy; therefore, leading to substandard care particularly for palliative surgical procedures. The interventional nature of surgical procedures may create a different mentality of surgical "buy-in," that may unintentionally prioritize survivability over maintaining patient self-autonomy. ⋯ Residents from the PGY-3 class, who were 1 year removed the educational intervention while gaining 1 additional year of clinical anesthesiology training, consistently outperformed more senior residents who never received the intervention. Our training model for code-status training with anesthesiology residents showed significant gains. The best results were achieved when combining clinical experience with focused educational training.

Stent retriever mechanical thrombectomy is a recommended treatment for acute ischemic stroke. However, refractory thrombus in artery bifurcation can reduce the rate of successful revascularization. ⋯ The presented Y-configuration double-stent-retriever thrombectomy technique constitutes a safe and effective rescue treatment method for refractory thrombus in MCA bifurcation.

Benign neoplasm of the endobronchial tree is quite rare, while endobronchial lipoma is extremely rare. Tracheobronchial aspergillosis is a relatively uncommon but severe form of invasive aspergillosis involving the tracheobronchial tree. ⋯ Endobronchial lipoma is a rare benign lung tumor, and this is the first report of endobronchial lipoma with tracheobronchial aspergillosis. In patients with suspected endobronchial lipoma, especially those who present with hemoptysis as the initial symptom, it is advisable to exclude coexistent aspergillosis.

Nursing educators should equip nursing students with sufficient knowledge about coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, cues to action, self-efficacy, and behavioral intention in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The purpose of this study was to use the health belief model to elucidate nursing students' relationships between knowledge about COVID-19, perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, cues to action, self-efficacy, and behavioral intention. A cross-sectional survey design was adopted and purposive sampling was utilized. ⋯ The findings showed that the nursing students had the following mean scores on knowledge of COVID-19 9.43 [standard deviation (SD)1.19], perceived susceptibility 19.41 (SD2.68), perceived severity 20.31 (SD 4.09), perceived benefits 26.52 (SD 4.08), perceived barriers 15.17 (SD5.88), cues to action 3.30 (SD1.70), self-efficacy 17.68 (SD2.83), and behavioral intention 18.46 (SD2.33). Nursing students' demographic background, knowledge of COVID-19, perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, cues to action, and self-efficacy explained 58.1% of the variance in behavioral intention (R2 = 0.581, F = 29.775, P < .001). Nursing educators can increase nursing students' knowledge of COVID-19, perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, cues to action, and self-efficacy as effective means of health promotion to improve their behavioral intention to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
