The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability of the red blood cell distribution width (RDW) to predict prognosis and treatment response in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML)-chronic phase (CP) patients treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKIs). We retrospectively enrolled 93 newly diagnosed CML-CP patients treated with TKIs from 2009 to 2018 at the First Hospital of Lanzhou University. Patients were divided into 2 groups using an RDW of 18.65% determined by receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. ⋯ Multivariate analysis demonstrated that a high RDW was an adverse predictor of OS (P = .005, HR (hazard ratio) = 9.741) and PFS (P = .009, HR = 16.735). The RDW is a readily available prognostic marker of outcome in patients with CML-CP and can predict treatment response to TKIs. Further larger and prospective studies are required.

Chronic cholecystitis is a common chronic disease in clinical practice. The incidence of chronic cholecystitis is gradually increasing due to changes in eating habits and even if acute infections aren't treated in time, it can cause serious complications, continue to plague people's daily life and become an economic burden to society. Currently, the curative effect of chronic cholecystitis under the control of western medicine is still lacking and there are adverse reactions. However, based on current clinical controlled trials acupuncture therapy for chronic cholecystitis has gradually become a complementary treatment. Therefore, this systematic review aims to explore the safety and feasibility of acupuncture therapy in the treatment of chronic cholecystitis. ⋯ This study will explore the safety and limitations of acupuncture therapy in the treatment of chronic cholecystitis, so that acupuncture therapy will be more widely used clinically.

Many clinical trials and systematic reviews have suggested that acupuncture (include moxibustion) could be effective in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). However, clinical practices vary greatly leads to different choices which are mainly based on personal experience. The aim of this Bayesian network meta-analysis is to compare the efficacy of different acupuncture methods for DPN. ⋯ To find the most effective acupuncture therapy for the treatment of DPN supported by evidence-based medicine.

Association between the nurse-led program with mental health status, quality of life, and heart failure rehospitalization in chronic heart failure patients.
The nurse-led program is associated with a short-term improvement of mental health status (MHS) and quality of life (QOL) in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). Nonetheless, the long-term effect of this program is undetermined. The aims of the current study were to evaluate the 1-year effects of the nurse-led program on MHS, QOL, and heart failure (HF) rehospitalization among patients with CHF. ⋯ During 12 months' follow-up, the proportion of patients who experienced HF rehospitalization was lower in the treatment group (19.6% vs 24.1%). After adjusting for covariates, the utilization of the nurse-led program, and increase of MHI-5 and KCCQ scores were associated with reduced risk of HF rehospitalization. The nurse-led program is beneficial for the improvement of MHS and QOL for CHF patients, which might contribute to the reduction of HF rehospitalization.

Associations between salivary cytokines and periodontal and microbiological parameters in orthodontic patients.
Orthodontic treatment can lead to microbial-induced gingival inflammation and aseptic periodontal inflammations. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between salivary pro-inflammatory cytokines levels with gingival health status and oral microbe loads among patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. The present investigation was a cross-sectional study among a sample of 111 consecutive orthodontic patients (mean age 18.4 ± 4.4 years). ⋯ Moderate positive correlations were found between salivary IL-1β levels and total aerobic and anaerobic bacteria count, streptococci count, and lactobacilli count (r = 0.380-0.446, P < .001), and weak positive correlations between salivary MIF levels and total salivary aerobic and anaerobic bacteria counts (r = 0.249-0.306, P < .01) were observed. A positive correlation was found between salivary IL-1β levels and Bleeding Index (r = 0.216, P < .05). The level of salivary IL-1β positively correlates with oral bacterial load among orthodontic patients; the relationship between inflammatory cytokines and oral microflora deserved further study.
