The study aimed to explore the reliability and validity of the Sub-Health Measurement Scale version 1.0 (SHMS v1.0) for the assessment of the suboptimal health status (SHS) of Tianjin residents. This was a cross-sectional study that surveyed 2640 urban residents in Tianjin from June 2016 to January 2018. Demographic and clinical characteristics were collected. ⋯ The SHS frequency increased with age, from 62.4% in participants ≤25 years of age to 72.8% in those ≥ 56 years of age. The multivariable analysis showed that female sex (P < .001), age >25 years old (P = .009), bachelor degree or above (P < .001), obesity (P < .0), regular smoking (P = .043), frequent drinking (P = .045), sleep time < 6 hours (P = .006), working time >10 hours (P < .001), physical exercise <5 times/mo (P < .001), and adverse events >9 (P < .001) were associated with SHS. The prevalence of SHS is high among urban residents in Tianjin.

The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of phosphatase of regenerating live-3 (PRL-3) in human stage III colorectal cancer (CRC) and to evaluate its correlation with metachronous liver metastasis (MLM) and prognosis. The retrospective cohort study included 116 stage III CRC primary tumors and 60 normal colorectal tissues. PRL-3 expression was measured by immunohistochemistry. ⋯ A multivariate analysis indicated that PRL-3 expression was an independent unfavorable prognostic factor for OS (P = .007). Our study suggested that high PRL-3 expression is an independent risk factor for MLM and poor prognosis. PRL-3 is expected to be a promising biomarker for predicting the incidence of MLM and prognosis in patients with stage III CRC.

Randomized Controlled Trial
A randomized phase II trial comparing capecitabine with oxaliplatin or docetaxel as first-line treatment in advanced gastric and gastroesophageal adenocarcinomas.
A combination of fluoropyrimidines and platinum is widely accepted as the standard first-line treatment for advanced gastric and gastroesophageal adenocarcinomas. However, the benefit compared with platinum-free chemotherapeutic regimens remains controversial. We compared the efficacy and safety of capecitabine with oxaliplatin or docetaxel, as first-line therapy in advanced gastric cancer. ⋯ The DX regimen was not superior to XELOX, but instead, similar. The platinum-containing regimen remains the preferred first-line option for advanced gastric and gastroesophageal adenocarcinomas, and DX might be considered as an alternative for patients unsuitable for platinum-containing chemotherapy.

The relationship between serum uric acid (UA) and bone mineral density (BMD) has been proposed by several researchers. However, there has been no consensus regarding the relationships among serum UA, diabetes, and BMD. The aim of this study is to investigate the association between UA, BMD, and at least osteopenia in type 2 diabetes patients. ⋯ Setting the first quartile as the reference, the risk of at least osteopenia in the fourth quartile was significant among all patients (odds ratio [OR]: 0.75; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.57, 0.98) and specifically in females (OR: 0.79; 95% CI: 0.43, 0.97), patients aged over 50 years (OR: 0.79; 95% CI: 0.60, 0.97) and patients with a BMI greater than 25 (OR: 0.74; 95% CI: 0.47, 0.97). The optimal cutoff point for the serum UA level to distinguish at least osteopenia in diabetic patients was 395 μmol/L. Serum UA concentration is negatively associated with the occurrence of at least osteopenia in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes.

The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of combined opioids by comparing four regimens of patient-controlled epidural analgesia (PCEA) after cesarean section. Parturient patients who underwent elective or emergent cesarean section under combined spinal and epidural anesthesia from April 2013 to March 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. Based on PCEA, they were assigned to one of 4 groups: local anesthetic alone (LA), epidural single morphine administration during surgery followed by local anesthetic alone (M), local anesthetic combined with fentanyl 10 μg/h (F10), or local anesthetic combined with fentanyl 20 μg/h (F20). ⋯ Significantly fewer patients in the F20 group required rescue analgesia on postoperative day 1 and 2 (25 and 55%) than those in the M (66 and 81%) and F10 (62 and 66%) groups (P < .001 and P = .007, respectively). Postoperative nausea and vomiting and pruritus were significantly higher in the M group (P < .008 and P = .024, respectively). The results of the present study suggest that local anesthetic alone after a single administration of morphine, or local anesthetic combined with fentanyl 10 μg/h would generally be adequate for PCEA, whereas local anesthetic combined with fentanyl 20 μg/h would be suitable for conventional epidural analgesia.
