High pretreatment level of D-dimer in small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is commonly encountered, but the impact of high pretreatment D-dimer level on the prognosis of SCLC patients remains undetermined. Therefore, we conducted this meta-analysis focusing specifically on the prognostic value of high pretreatment D-dimer level in SCLC patients comprehensively. ⋯ High pretreatment level of D-dimer was found to be an independent unfavorable prognostic factor in SCLC patients. However, more studies with sufficient adjustment for confounding factors are encouraged to confirm our conclusions.

Clinical, laboratory, and imaging features of pediatric COVID-19: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Pediatric cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been reported. This meta-analysis was aimed at describing the clinical, laboratory, and imaging characteristics of children with COVID-19 based on published data of pediatric COVID-19 cases. Search of PubMed, Embase, Web of Sciences, Science Direct, and Google Scholar for articles published until December 14, 2020, that described the clinical, laboratory, and imaging features of children with COVID-19. ⋯ Chest computed tomography showed unilateral and bilateral lesions, and ground-glass opacity in 29.4% (95% CI: 24.8%-34.3%) and 24.7% (95% CI: 18.2%-31.6%), and 32.9% (95% CI: 25.3%-40.9%), respectively, and normal in approximately 36.0% (95% CI: 27.7%-44.7%). We found that children with COVID-19 had relatively mild disease, with quite a lot of asymptomatic infections and low rate of severe illness. Data from more regions are needed to determine the prevention and treatment strategies for children with COVID-19.

In this analysis, we aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of dual therapy (DT) with a non-vitamin K oral anticoagulant (NOAC) and an adenosine diphosphate receptor antagonist (P2Y12 inhibitor) vs triple therapy (TT) with aspirin, a P2Y12 inhibitor and a vitamin K antagonist for the treatment of diabetes mellitus (DM) patients with co-existing atrial fibrillation (AF) following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). ⋯ DT with a NOAC and a P2Y12 inhibitor was associated with significantly less bleeding events without increasing the adverse cardiovascular outcomes when compared to TT with aspirin, a P2Y12 inhibitor and a Vitamin K antagonist for the treatment of DM patients with co-existing AF following PCI. Hence, DT is comparable in efficacy, but safer compared to TT. This interesting hypothesis will have to be confirmed in future studies.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of the effects of early mobilization therapy in patients after cardiac surgery.
Prolonged hospitalization and immobility of critical care patients elevate the risk of long-term physical and cognitive impairments. However, the therapeutic effects of early mobilization have been difficult to interpret due to variations in study populations, interventions, and outcome measures. We conducted a meta-analysis to assess the effects of early mobilization therapy on cardiac surgery patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). ⋯ CRD42019135338.

Post-stroke constipation is a major complication of stroke and increases the incidence of poor neurological outcomes and infectious complications and, therefore, warrants active and prompt treatment. In East Asian countries, several types of herbal medicines have been used for the treatment of post-stroke constipation because they are considered safer than existing pharmacotherapies. However, no systematic review has investigated the efficacy and safety of traditional East Asian herbal medicine in the treatment of post-stroke constipation. With this systematic review and meta-analysis, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of traditional East Asian herbal medicines for the treatment of post-stroke constipation. ⋯ Ethical approval is not required, as this study was based on a review of published research. This review will be published in a peer-reviewed journal and disseminated electronically and in print.
