The purpose of this study was to explore the association between myasthenia gravis (MG) and the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) in an Asian population. The risk was analyzed in a cohort of 5528 patients with history of MG and 5528 individuals without MG using a hospitalization claim dataset. Both groups were matched by age, sex, index year and baseline comorbidities as an original analysis. ⋯ A stratified analysis showed that compared with the propensity score matched non-MG group, there was no increased risk of developing AF based on age categories, gender, or comorbidities. Different time follow-up periods results showed no increased risk of AF compared with the non-MG group. Overall, in the Taiwanese cohort, MG is not associated with an increased risk of AF.

Association between gastroesophageal reflux disease and vocal fold polyps.
The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and vocal fold polyps (VFPs). This is a Case-Control study and was performed with the help of The Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. Twenty-seven patients with VFP and 20 controls without VFP were recruited between May and October 2018. ⋯ GERD is an important risk factor for VFP. Pepsin may promote the aggregation of immune cells, increase the local cytokines, and promote inflammatory reaction, suggesting a potential new pathogenesis for VFP. The saliva pepsin test is a reliable method for GERD diagnosis.

Understanding intratumoral fat in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is clinically important to elucidate prognosis. We sought to quantify HCC and liver fat with a multimaterial decomposition (MMD) algorithm with rapid kilovoltage-switching dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) relative to chemical-shift magnetic resonance imaging (CSI). In this retrospective study, 40 consecutive patients with HCC underwent non-contrast-enhanced (non-CE) and four-phases contrast-enhanced (four-CE) DECT (80 and 140 kVp) and abdominal MR imaging (including CSI) between April 2011 and December 2012. ⋯ As compared with liver, correlations between FVF measured by DECT-based MMD and FF measured by CSI were weak in HCC in all phases. FVF is reproducible across all scan phases in HCC and liver. The MMD algorithm requires modification for HCC fat quantification given the heterogeneous components of HCC.

Comparative Study Observational Study
Comparison of translabial three-dimensional ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging for the grading of levator ani defects.
Levator ani defect (LAD) closely correlates with pelvic organ prolapse. This study aimed to compare the LAD grading between 3-dimensional ultrasonography (3D-US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and investigate the reasons for the difference using 3-dimensional pelvic models. Seventy-two Chinese women who were to undergo repair surgery were assessed by the prolapse staging, 3D-US and MRI. ⋯ Comparison of 3D-US and MRI showed the good agreement on LAD grading. The moderate agreement in assessing partial or complete tears resulted from the grading criteria of 3D-US. The morphological characteristics of puborectalis assisted in identifying complete tears.

Mucous membrane pemphigoid in a patient with chronic hepatitis B virus infection: A case report.
Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) is a rare, autoimmune bullous disease that affects mucosal surfaces and skin. Early and aggressive treatment initiation may be warranted due to the risks of serious complications. However, it can be challenging to make an initial diagnosis. Viral infection such as hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection has been found to be associated with the formation of autoimmune bullous diseases. ⋯ It would be useful for medical practitioners in different specialties to be alert of the heterogeneous presentations of MMP. Chronic HBV infection might be a risk factor for MMP. In patients with chronic HBV infection, treatment of MMP must be closely monitored for the risk of reactivation of HBV.
