Inferior mesenteric plexus block is indicated for left-sided lower abdominal pain. However, in patients with terminal cancer, severe abdominal pain can prevent the patient from maintaining the necessary posture during the procedure, and considerable anatomic deformation owing to extensive growth, invasion, and metastasis of the tumor in the abdominal cavity can make the procedure difficult. In these cases, performing the procedures under computed tomography (CT) guidance can ensure greater safety and accuracy. ⋯ CT-guided inferior mesenteric plexus block can be performed in patients with left-sided lower abdominal pain, enabling a safer and more accurate procedure especially in patients with terminal cancer who are unable to lie prone owing to severe lower abdominal pain or with considerable anatomic deformation due to extensive growth, invasion, and metastasis of the tumor in the abdominal cavity.

Analysis of psychological status and effect of psychological intervention in quarantined population during the epidemic of SARS-CoV-2.
During outbreaks of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), many countries adopted quarantine to slow the spread of the virus of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Quarantine will cause isolation from families, friends, and the public, which consequently leads to serious psychological pressure with potentially long-lasting effects on the quarantined population. Experience of specific practices to improve the psychological status of the mandatory quarantined population was limited. ⋯ The SCL-90 factor scores of participants with psychological intervention significantly decreased in somatization, obsessive-compulsive, depression, anxiety, phobic anxiety, paranoid ideation, and psychoticism. In contrast, most factor scores of the SCL-90 inventory changed little without statistical significance in participants without psychological intervention. Psychological problems should be emphasized in the quarantined individuals and professional psychological intervention was a feasible approach to improve the psychological status of the mandatory quarantined population in the epidemic of SARS-CoV-2.

Meningeal melanocytoma is a rare benign melanocytic tumor of the central nervous system. We report for the first time a case of meningeal melanocytoma treated with immunotherapy. ⋯ This case report is the first about a patient with meningeal melanocytoma treated with immunotherapy. Treatment based on biomolecular mutations will probably change spinal melanocytoma therapeutic approach in the next few years.

Malignant catatonia (MC) is a movement disorder syndrome characterized by immobility, rigidity, and consciousness disorders that develops in association with mental and physical diseases. It is often fatal due to hyperthermia, rhabdomyolysis, and acute kidney injury. Its clinical symptoms are similar to those of another disorder, neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), and it is often difficult to distinguish between the 2 disorders. ⋯ This is the first report of MC with suspected involvement of pulmonary aspergillosis. MC differs from NMS, in that it is treated more effectively with gamma-aminobutyric acid A agonists. Although benzodiazepines are the first choice for the diagnosis and treatment of MC, they are ineffective for majority of patients with schizophrenia. However, even in such cases, propofol and quetiapine are effective, and they facilitate diagnosis and treatment.

A novel LMNA indel mutation identified in a family with atrioventricular block and atrial fibrillation.
It is well known that many genetic factors are involved in the occurrence and progression of atrioventricular block (AV block) and atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the genetic variants discovered so far have only explained parts of these processes. More genes and variants remain to be identified. ⋯ By selection of variants absent in the known databases and were predicted to be deleterious, 4 novel variants were identified. Only one novel frameshift insertion in the LMNA gene (c.825_826insCAGG) was identified in another affected family member and not detected in other non-affected family members and the 100 controls. Our finding expanded the spectrum of variants associated with AV block and AF, and was valuable in the genetic diagnosis of AV block and AF.
