Effects of an Avocado-based Mediterranean Diet on Serum Lipids for Secondary Prevention after Ischemic Stroke Trial (ADD-SPISE): Study protocol.
A poor or unhealthy diet is responsible for an important fraction of ischemic stroke risk. Adherence to dietary patterns, such as the Mediterranean diet, rich in monounsaturated fatty acids mainly from olive oil, is associated with a lower stroke risk. Furthermore, lowering low-density cholesterol (LDL-C) levels decreases stroke recurrence. Interestingly, Avocado-substituted diets, which are also rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, significantly decrease LDL cholesterol levels. This study aims to evaluate whether a Mediterranean diet based on Avocados reduces LDL-C compared to a low-fat high-complex carbohydrate diet after 3 months of the intervention in patients who had a recent acute ischemic stroke. The trial will also assess safety and feasibility. ⋯ The study is registered under ADDSPISE at www.clinicaltrials.gov. Identifier NCT03524742. Protocol ID CAS-605 version 3.0 (May 2nd, 2019).

Ultrasonography is the ideal tool for assessing hip morphology in infants younger than 6-month-old. This study assessed the interobserver agreement and clinical disparities of the 2 most widely used ultrasound (US) methods, the Graf method, and femoral head coverage (FHC) measurement. A prospective observational study (STROBE compliant) of 2024 newborns was conducted between January 2017 and December 2018. ⋯ Both alpha angle and FHC ratio revealed substantial interobserver agreement while beta angle achieved moderate agreement. FHC ratio possesses higher sensitivity and similar specificity compared with the Graf method when screening unstable hips. Level II, development of diagnostic criteria on basis of consecutive patients.

To approximate the breakdown of narrow anterior chamber angle conditions, on general ophthalmology clinics, in the predominantly white population of the South East Kent region in the United Kingdom. A review was done of all patients attending a secondary care ophthalmology general clinic over a 3-year period. Patients were assessed with: slitlamp biomicroscopy with indentation gonioscopy; SD optical coherence tomography, Humphrey visual field analyzer, and high frequency ultrasound and categorized into various narrow angle conditions. ⋯ The majority of these (67.1%) are at a relatively low risk of developing acute or chronic angle closure glaucoma. Of the remaining patients 8.8% have primary angle closure suspect or primary angle closure and 2.9% have already progressed to chronic narrow angle closure glaucoma. Plateau iris pathology and phacomorphic glaucoma account for the remainder of the presentations.

The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the 3 primer of untranslated region (3'UTR) of the Pentraxin 3 (PTX3) gene and the risk of essential hypertension (EHT). PTX3 genotypes, rs2614, rs111451363, and rs73158510 locus, were found in 260 patients with EHT and 260 healthy controls. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to detect plasma hsa-miR-4766-5p levels. ⋯ Plasma PTX3 levels were significantly negatively correlated with hsa-miR-4766-5p levels in patients with EHT and the control group (r = -0.87, -0.85, P < .01, P < .01). The PTX3 gene rs2614 locus C allele was the target gene of hsa-miR-4766-5p. The PTX3 rs2614 locus SNP is significantly associated with EHT risk.

Hydatidiform mole (HM) is more common as molar pregnancy. It is a disease classified under the category of gestational trophoblastic diseases, which could metastasize after originating in the placenta. A majority of females suffering from molar pregnancies are curable by evacuating retained products of conception and the patient's fertility is preserved. In some cases, the growth perseveres and leads to gestational trophoblastic neoplasia, which is an extremely malicious condition that needs chemo-based treatment. There is a possibility to lessen the risk of gestational trophoblastic disease in females with HM through the administration of prophylactic chemo. Yet, there is controversy regarding prophylactic chemotherapy administered pre-or-post removal of HM to curtail the malignant sequelae. Therefore, we will conduct this research to assess both the efficacy as well as security of using prophylactic chemotherapy to treat HM. ⋯ DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/6QV52 (https://osf.io/6qv52/).
