Poor clinical and virological outcome of nucleos(t)ide analogue monotherapy in HBV/HDV co-infected patients.
Co-infection of Hepatitis B (HBV) and Delta viruses (HDV) represent the most severe form of viral hepatitis. While treatment with pegylated Interferon alpha (PEG-IFNα) is well established, therapy with nucleoside or nucleotide analogues (NA) has been a matter of debate. We aimed to investigate the role of NA treatment in a well-defined single centre cohort. ⋯ The effect of NA in patients with HBV/HDV co-infection is limited. Treatment with NA was associated with a higher likelihood of clinical disease progression. Interferon alpha therapy was beneficial in reducing liver complications and improves long-term outcome.

Association between plasma endothelial microparticles and contrast-induced nephropathy in patients underwent coronary angiography.
We aim to investigate the association between plasma endothelial microparticles (EMPs) and contrast-induced nephropathy of patients underwent coronary angiography. The patients were divided into normal renal function group and renal dysfunction group based on the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Among the 180 cases, 117 received determination of EMP and serum creatinine after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and/or coronary angiography. ⋯ Logistic regression analysis showed that the levels of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), eGFR, UA, and Cys-C were correlated with the incidence of contrast induced nephropathy. In patients with contrast-induced-nephropathy, the plasma EMPs were significantly increased after coronary angiography. The expression of plasma EMPs may play a role in the occurrence of contrast-induced-nephropathy.

Interaction between ALDH2 rs671 and life habits affects the risk of hypertension in Koreans: A STROBE observational study.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase-2 (ALDH2) is associated with the risk of hypertension, and the effects of lifestyle factors on blood pressure vary according to genotype. Among the Han Chinese, the risk of hypertension is lower in the group with the rs671 A allele than in the group with the G allele, and there is a significant association between the frequency of fried food consumption and hypertension. However, the A allele significantly increases the risk of hypertension with increased fried food intake. ⋯ Subjects carrying the A allele exhibited an increased risk of hypertension with increased fried food intake without exercise [OR = 2.256 (95% CI:1.094-4.654), P = .028]. ALDH2 polymorphism and complex lifestyle habits (fried food consumption and exercise) are associated with the risk of hypertension. Further, the A allele is associated with a low risk of hypertension, but it increases the risk of hypertension as fried food intake without exercise increases.

Esophageal cancer is the eighth most frequent and sixth most fatal cancer worldwide. This study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics and prognostic significance of yes related protein 1 (YAP1) and transcriptional co-activator with PDZ binding motif (TAZ) in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). ⋯ YAP1 and TAZ proteins are highly expressed in ESCC, and closely related to the clinical and pathological parameters such as the diameter of the tumor, degree of differentiation, and depth of invasion, indicating that YAP1 and TAZ may be involved in the development of ESCC. YAP1 and TAZ may be used as prognostic markers in ESCC.

BCL7B plays a potential role in the progression of various cancers, while its role in sarcomas is unknown. We aimed to evaluate BCL7B's diagnostic and prognostic value, and potential BCL7B-related mechanisms in sarcomas based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. We collected patients with sarcoma from TCGA. ⋯ Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that low BCL7B expression was independently associated with poor overall survival (P = .008). GSEA showed that GPCR (G protein-coupled receptors) ligand binding, secreted factors, class A1 rhodopsin-like receptors, extracellular matrix organization, core matrisome, Fc epsilon receptor I mediated NF-κB activation, and WNT signaling pathway were differentially enriched in BCL7B low expression phenotype (|NES| > 1, adjusted P value <.05, and FDR value <0.25). BCL7B may play an important role in sarcoma progression and may be a potential biomarker for prognosis and diagnosis in sarcomas.
