There are various treatments for facial nerve palsy, and research into this topic is ongoing. In the present study, we carried out bibliometric and visualized analyses to identify the trends of research into facial nerve palsy treatment. ⋯ This study provides the overall trends of facial nerve palsy treatment. To date, research on medication treatment has been main focus, and antiviral use among medication treatment and complementary and alternative treatment has emerged in recent years.

The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has changed people's way of life and posed great challenges to plastic surgery. Most of plastic surgeries are considered elective surgeries and are recommended to be delayed. But breast reconstruction in plastic surgery is special. Doctors' associations from different countries have different rules on whether breast reconstruction surgery should be delayed. For the controversial topic of immediate breast reconstruction in the COVID-19 pandemic, we conducted this study. ⋯ In our opinion, breast cancer surgery belongs to confine operation, and breast reconstruction surgery should be performed immediately after the completion of breast cancer surgery. We recommend the use of breast implants for breast reconstruction surgery during the COVID-19 epidemic. Due to the limitations of the study, our proposed protocol for breast reconstruction surgery during the COVID-19 epidemic needs to be further validated in clinical studies.

Aberrant immunity has been associated with the initiation and progression of cancers such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Here, we aim to develop a signature based on immune-related genes (IRGs) to predict the prognosis of HCC patients. The gene expression profiles of 891 HCC samples were derived from 4 publicly accessible datasets. ⋯ Patients with high IRG scores tended to be in advanced TNM stages, with increased risks of tumor recurrence and metastasis. More importantly, the IRG score was strongly associated with certain immune cell counts, gene expression of immune checkpoints, estimated immune score, and mutation of critical genes in HCC. In conclusion, the proposed IRG score can predict the prognosis and reflect the tumor immune microenvironment of HCC patients, which may facilitate the individualized treatment and provide potential immunotherapeutic targets.

This study aimed to know the distance of the cervicovaginal junction (CVJ) to the anterior peritoneal reflection (APR) as measured in surgical specimens, and assess the distance between the CVJ and APR to ensure safe anterior colpotomy for vaginal hysterectomy among Korean women. Patients who underwent vaginal hysterectomy were included in the analysis. According to the presence of pelvic organ prolapse or menopausal status, the distance from the CVJ to the APR was assessed preoperatively through transvaginal ultrasonography (TV-US), as well as intraoperatively using surgical specimens. ⋯ The median distance from the CVJ to the APR measured using the surgical specimen did not differ significantly between the 2 groups according to pelvic organ prolapse (26.0 [12.0-55.0] vs 27.5 [17.0-55.0] mm, P = .076] and menopausal status (27.0 [15.0-55.0] vs 26.0 [12.0-55.0] mm, P = .237). TV-US does not an accurately measure the dissection plane length from the CVJ to the APR during anterior colpotomy. During vaginal hysterectomy, the median distance from the CVJ to the APR measured using the surgical specimen was 26 (12.0-55.0) mm, which can help decrease surgical complications.

The current study aimed to investigate circulating glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78) as well as CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein homologous protein (CHOP) concentrations in Chinese type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients, especially those with microalbuminuria. We recruited 67 patients with T2DM and 63 control subjects. We determined circulating GRP78 and CHOP concentrations by ELISA, collected anthropometric data, and measured biochemical parameters in a clinical laboratory. ⋯ After controlling for confounding factors, circulating GRP78 and CHOP expression were significantly associated with diabetic kidney disease (binary logistic regression, P < .01). Patients with T2DM showed increased circulating GRP78 and CHOP concentrations. Receiver operating characteristic areas under the curve for predicting diabetic kidney disease based on GRP78 and CHOP were 0.686 (95% CI: 0.558-0.813) and 0.670 (0.524-0.816), respectively.
