Traditionally, surgical residency training is more focused on obtaining surgical skills through a well-established coaching system worldwide. However, constant advances in medical science require surgeons to learn not only surgical skills but also the ability of scientific research to improve clinical practice and future professional development. The study aims to emphasize that professional education in terms of scientific research is also significant for surgical residency training. ⋯ The continuing education for surgical residents should not be limited in coaching clinical practice. Scientific research is also essential for current surgical residency training, and a formal mentorship program may be beneficial for the future professional development of surgical residents. However, the success of the 2-step evaluation could possibly depend on the career choices of the residents instead of the mentorship program.

This study is to identify potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). GSE6044 and GSE118370 raw data from the Gene Expression Omnibus database were normalized with Robust Multichip Average. After merging these two datasets, the combat function of sva packages was used to eliminate batch effects. ⋯ Their expressions in LUAD were associated with tumor stages and relative abundance of tumor infiltrating immune cells, such as B cells, CD4+ T cells, and macrophages. Moreover, cell cycle, DNA replication, homologous recombination, mismatch repair, P53 signaling pathway, and small cell lung cancer signaling were significantly enriched in CDK1 and PLK1 high expression phenotype. CDK1 and PLK1 may be used as potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for LUAD.

Dementia is of increasing importance, as it is a major public health problem worldwide. Sleep disturbance is common in dementia patients and may be associated with worse cognitive symptoms or behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia. Non-pharmacological approaches, such as acupuncture, for treating this clinical condition are gaining importance. This study aimed to comprehensively search and analyze randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) of acupuncture in treating sleep disturbance or sleep disorders in dementia patients. ⋯ There were limited acupuncture studies on this topic. Given the number of studies included and their sample size, methodological quality, and heterogeneities, clinically relevant conclusions could not be drawn. Further clinical studies are needed in this field considering its urgency and importance.
