To provide references for global pandemic prevention and control, this study aimed to analyze the epidemiological characteristics and clinical manifestations of 103 new confirmed cases between June 12 and June 15, 2020, in Beijing. All confirmed cases in this study were tested with a positive SARS-CoV-2 reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction and extracting data from the Beijing Municipal Health Commission (June 11 to July 6, 2020). We selected the 103 typical confirmed cases (excluding imported cases) between June 12 and June 15 for statistical analysis and explored differences among different clinical cases. ⋯ Different clinical classification in age (P = .041), exposure history (P = .025), fever (P = .020), and cough (P = .000) were the statistically significant difference, but there was no statistically significant difference in gender (P = .501), the type of diagnosis (P = .478), expectoration (P = .979), fatigue (P = .906), dizziness or headache (P = .848), muscle pain (P = .825), sore throat or throat discomfort (P = .852), chills (P = .933), diarrhea (P = .431) and runny nose or nasal congestion (P = .898). This study shows that Beijing's epidemic scope was mainly concentrated in the Xinfadi Market. The initial cases were epidemiologically related to the BXM, the clinical classification of most cases was mild and moderate, and the differences in age, exposure history, fever, and cough among different clinical cases were statistically significant.

Over-expression of vitronectin (VN) is associated with tumorigenesis. The present study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of VN expression in gastric cancer. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator analysis was performed to screen the hub gene from The Cancer Genome Atlas gastric cancer patients with complete follow-up data, and 347 patients were finally included. ⋯ A prognostic risk score for OS was built based on VN expression. A meta-analysis from Oncomine datasets revealed that significantly lower VN mRNA levels in gastric cancer correlated with poorer OS. VN expression could be a prognostic marker of gastric cancer.

Smear-positive pulmonary tuberculosis (SPPTB) is the major contributor to the spread of tuberculosis (TB) infection, and it creates high morbidity and mortality worldwide. The objective of this study was to determine the predictors of delayed sputum smear conversion at the end of the intensive phase of TB treatment in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. This retrospective study was conducted utilising data of SPPTB patients treated in 5 TB treatment centres located in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia from 2013 to 2018. ⋯ To improve sputum smear conversion success rate, the early detection of PTB cases has to be fine-tuned so as to reduce late or severe case presentation during diagnosis. Efforts must also be in place to encourage PTB patients to quit smoking. The percentage of patients assigned with DOTS supervisors should be increased while at the same time ensuring that vulnerable groups such as those residing in suburban localities, the elderly and migrant TB patients are provided with proper follow-up treatment and management.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) almost metastasizes to every organ, the possibility of adrenal metastasis is relatively low in patients that have undergone radical nephrectomy, only a few cases of bilateral adrenal metastasis are reported on literature. Although surgical treatment of metastases from RCC is preferred and contributes to the rate of survival, it is considered challenging to manage such cases due to the rarity of bilateral metastasis to the adrenal glands. ⋯ Bilateral metastatic adrenal recurrence from RCC is very rare. Early diagnosis of adrenal metastasis is challenging because they are usually silent both anatomically and functionally. Surgical intervention is a wise option for these patients that may improve survival, and metachronous bilateral adrenalectomy is proved to be safe and effective.

Opportunistic infection with multiple pathogens currently has become less uncommon since the application of immunosuppressant or corticosteroid in non- Human immunodeficiency virus patients. However, the clinical diagnosis of the co-infection remains difficult since the uncertainty and deficiency of the microbiologic testing methods. ⋯ This case highlights the application of metagenomic next-generation sequencing in the clinical diagnosis of pulmonary co-infection. Suitable prophylaxis, necessary clinical awareness and accurate diagnosis are indispensable for immunocompromised patients with pulmonary infection.
