To determine the normal range of pancreatic volume (PV) in Chinese adults using computed tomography (CT) volumetry. To assess the relationships of PV with patient demographics and clinical parameters. To analyze the degree of correlation between PV values determined by manual segmentation and those calculated by formulas. ⋯ The correlation coefficients between PV and PV∗ and PV# were 0.676 and 0.376, respectively, with both P < .001. PV associated with patient demographics and clinical parameters. A more accurate and simpler formula should be used in the future to calculate and monitor changes in PV.

The co-expression of CBX8 and PD-L1 and prognostic value in cervical cancer.
Chromobox homolog 8 (CBX8) plays an important role in the occurrence and development of various tumors, and is closely related to the prognosis of patients with cancer. However, the occurrence, development, and prognostic value of CBX8 in cervical cancer have not been reported yet. In this study, immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of CBX8 in cervical cancer tissues and the corresponding normal tissues adjacent to the tumor. ⋯ In addition, CBX8 and PD-L1 co-expression model could better predict the prognosis of patients with cervical cancer, and its area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was similar to that of FIGO stage. CBX8 may be an independent prognostic factor for cervical cancer. Moreover, the CBX8 and PD-L1 co-expression model could predict the postoperative survival of patients with cervical cancer objectively and reliably, which will aid clinicians to shunt patients with cervical cancer based on the risk of death, develop a reasonable treatment plan, and provide personalized prognosis.

Alzheimer disease (AD) and sporadic cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) are common cognitive disorders. Both AD and CSVD have mental symptoms including chronic progressive cognitive impairment, dysfunction, and behavioral abnormalities. However, the differences on the cognitive dysfunction of AD and CSVD remain unclear. ⋯ The total mini-mental state examination scores in AD, CSVD group were significantly less than that of control group, there were significant differences in the domains of directional ability, attention and computing ability, delayed recall, and visual perception (all P < .05); the total Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale scores in AD, CSVD group were significantly less than that of control group. There were significant differences in the domains of visual space and execution, immediate remember, attention and computing ability, language, delayed recall, and directional ability (all P < .05); diabetes was a risk factor both for AD (hazard ratio = 1.63, 95% confidence interval: 1.35-1.97) and CSVD (hazard ratio = 1.15, 95% confidence interval: 1.08-1.27). The cognitive dysfunctions of AD are difference to that of CSVD patients, and diabetes is the risk factor both for AD and CSVD, future studies are needed to further identify the prevention and treatment of AD and CSVD.

The XEN Gel Stent (Allergan Inc., CA, USA) has been widely used in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery to lower intraocular pressure considering reasonable efficacy and safety profiles. However, the XEN gel stent could be occluded by fibrin, blood clots, or the iris due to its small lumen design for preventing postoperative hypotony. To date, only a few studies have assessed XEN occlusion after combined phacoemulsification with XEN gel implantation and how to manage this condition. We describe the first case report of XEN gel stent obstruction by cortical material, demonstrated by anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT), which resolved effectively after low-energy neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd: YAG) laser shock wave treatment. ⋯ To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report on the efficacy of Nd: YAG laser treatment for recanalization of XEN implant occluded by the cortex. Moreover, AS-OCT could provide additional clinical information for recanalization of the XEN gel stent.

Traditionally, TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement) has been performed under general anesthesia (GA). Thus GA facilitates the use of TEE (Transesophageal echocardiography), and the use of TEE is an important means to improve the quality of cardiac surgery and reduce postoperative complications. However, GA was also associated with prolonged mechanical ventilation, longer hospitalization and intensive care unit hours, and the need for positive inotropic agents. With increasing clinical experience and advances in transcatheter techniques, transfemoral TAVR may also be feasible under local anesthesia (LA). Studies have shown that LA can avoid hemodynamic fluctuations caused by general anesthesia and lung damage caused by positive pressure ventilation, and can also reduce medical costs. ⋯ INPLASY202170078.
