To investigate the correlation of serum pentraxin 3 (PTX-3), soluble interleukin-2 receptor (SIL-2R), C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT) levels, and acute physiology and chronic health evaluation II (APACHE II) scores in patients with severe acute pancreatitis (SAP). A total of 30 patients with SAP from October 2020 to October 2021 were selected as the SAP group, and 42 patients with mild acute pancreatitis (MAP) or moderate-severe acute pancreatitis (MSAP) was selected as the control group. The serum levels of PTX-3, SIL-2R, CRP, PCT, and APACHE II scores were evaluated. ⋯ The mortality rate within 28 days was 26.7% in the SAP group; moreover, the serum PTX-3, SIL-2R, CRP, and PCT levels and APACHE II scores at admission in the death group were significantly higher than those in the survival group (all P < .05). The receiver operating curve showed that the combined prediction value of all indicators (PTX-3 + SIL-2R + CRP + PCT + APACHE II) was superior to the single indicators, and the diagnostic sensitivity and specificity were 90.9% and 84.2%, respectively. Serum PTX-3, SIL-2R, CRP, and PCT levels and APACHE II scores have high guiding significance in early diagnosis and prognostic evaluation of SAP patients.

Efficacy of acupuncture and moxibustion therapy for simple obesity in adults: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
To evaluate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture and moxibustion therapy compared to non-acupuncture therapy in the treatment of simple obesity in adult. ⋯ Acupuncture and moxibustion is effective in treating adult simple obesity; however, due to the low score of the included studies, we still expect the results of higher-quality literature to provide a higher-level evidence-based basis for clinical decision-making. Furthermore, for the treatment of adult simple obesity, acupoints analysis revealed that Tianshu (ST25), Zhongwan (RN12), Zusanli (ST36), Fenglong (ST40) and Qihai (RN6) can form the basis for the treatment of simple obesity in adult.

There are different results on the effect of endotracheal tube (ETT) size on respiratory mechanics in patients undergoing mechanical ventilation, and there are few reports in adult laparoscopic surgery. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of ETT size on airway resistance (RAW) and dynamic lung compliance (COMPL) in patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal surgery. Seventy-two patients undergoing laparoscopic radical surgery for colorectal cancer under general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation were selected and divided into 3 groups (n = 24) using the random number table method Group A (ETT ID 7.0), Group B (ETT ID 7.5), and Group C (ETT ID 8.0). ⋯ The difference of COMPL between the 3 groups was statistically significant (P < .05); the COMPL of Group ID7.0 is lower than Group ID7.5, and Group ID7.5 is lower than Group ID8.0. In the pneumoperitoneal state, the RAW between ID7.0 group and ID8.0 group was statistically significant, the RAW difference between ID7.0 group and ID7.5 group, ID7.5 group and ID8.0 group not statistically significant (P > .05);the COMPL between the 3 groups was not statistically significant (P > .05). In the non-pneumoperitoneal state, the smaller the ETT internal diameter within a certain range, the higher RAW and the lower COMPL; in the pneumoperitoneal state, the RAW with the ID7.0 ETT was higher than that with the ID8.0 ETT, and the ETT size within a certain range had no effect on COMPL.

Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is a malignant vascular neoplasm caused by KS-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) infection. HIV plays a major role in KS pathogenesis. KS in HIV usually produces more malignant features than classic KS. ⋯ Most HIV + KS cells showed scattered reactive particles of HIV and KSHV. We demonstrated that HIV could infect CD34 + tumor cells and coexist with KSHV in KS, constituting a novel finding. We hypothesized that the direct KSHV-HIV interaction at the cellular level contributes to KS oncogenesis.

Coexistence of congenital adrenal hyperplasia due to 21-hydroxylase deficiency, Graves' disease and 47, XXX is rare. We report a case of a 25-year-old woman presented with masculine appearance, hirsutism and enlarged clitoris. Lab tests showed elevated serum 17 hydroxyprogesterone, testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone. Gene test revealed heterozygous gene mutation in CYP21A2:NM_000500:exon4:c.518 T > A, NM_000500:exon8:c.C1024T. Karyotype analysis showed 47, XXX. After prednisone replacement and antithyroid therapy, she got a normal menstruation and normal level of testosterone. These findings demonstrate that patients with abnormal chromosome are likely to combine 21-hydroxylase deficiency (21-OHD), thus karyotyping test should not be neglected for those who have been already diagnosed as 21-OHD. Additionally, chromosomal abnormality such as 47, XXX and Turner syndrome had susceptibility to develop autoimmune thyroid disease because a gene on X chromosome may be responsible for the occurrence of autoimmune thyroid disease. Moreover, both 21-OHD and Graves' disease (GD) can lead to high level of testosterone, thus we should keep in mind to test chromosome and thyroid function in 21-OHD patients to avoid misdiagnose or missed diagnosis. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of simple virilizing (SV) 21-OHD patient combined with 47, XXX and Graves disease. ⋯ Patients with abnormal chromosome are likely to combine 21-OHD, thus karyotyping test should not be neglected for those who have been already diagnosed as 21-OHD.
