To estimate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) and metabolic components and their associated factors and component combinations according to hypertension status in Tibetans living at high altitude. Multistage sampling of 1473 participants (799 hypertensive patients and 674 normotensive subjects). MS prevalence and the number of metabolic components ≥ 3 were significantly higher in the hypertensive than normotensives. ⋯ Low incoming, and high educational levels were associated with an elevated probability of MS in normotensive Tibetans also. The priority of prevention from cardiovascular diseases by targeting metabolic components in the hypertensive was different from normotensives. Different MS components had various lifestyle and socioeconomic factors.

Despite advances in treatment strategies for coronary heart disease, angina pectoris remains a major cardiovascular disease causing death worldwide. For patients with angina pectoris of coronary heart disease, new or adjuvant treatment regimens are needed. The available evidence suggests that Xuefu Zhuyu Granules combined with Western medicine has advantages in the treatment of angina pectoris of coronary heart disease, but whether its efficacy has a placebo effect and whether it can be used as an adjuvant regimen for the treatment of angina pectoris of coronary heart disease remains controversial. ⋯ This study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of Xuefu Zhuyu Granules combined with Western medicine in the treatment of angina pectoris of coronary heart disease. The results of this study will verify whether the efficacy of Xuefu Zhuyu Granules in the treatment of angina pectoris of coronary heart disease belongs to the placebo effect, which will also provide a reference for the clinical use of Xuefu Zhuyu Granules as a supplementary scheme for the treatment of angina pectoris of coronary heart disease.

To investigate the role of serum spalt like transcription factor 4 (SALL4) in the hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with nonsurgical treatment. Serum samples were collected from 101 patients with HCC without surgical treatment, then the SALL4 was detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. According to subsequent treatment, patients were divided into 2 groups, best supportive care (BSC) (58 cases) and nonsurgical anticancer treatment (NSAT) (48 cases). ⋯ In NSAT group, the survival time of patients with low SALL4 concentration was significantly longer than patients with high SALL4 concentration (P = .005). SALL4 have no predictive effect in BSC patients with HCC. But for patients received NSAT, low SALL4 concentration in serum may indicate longer survival.

Medication therapy management (MTM) service is an effective method to reduce medication-related problems and improve patients' multiple kinds of outcomes. However, the lack of comprehensive review for MTM services has hindered its development. As a result, we are aiming to evaluate the current benefits of MTM services with multiple outcomes. ⋯ Ethical approval is not applicable for this study.

This study explored underlying gene signatures of low birth weight (LBW) by analyzing differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between LBW and normal birth weight (NBW) subjects. ⋯ A total of 326 DEGs and 10 hub genes were identified as candidates for metabolic disorders in LBW individuals. Our results indicated PI3K/AKT signaling pathway as an intrauterine adaptive mechanism for LBW individuals. We observed activated PI3K/AKT pathway in LBW individuals, which would promote growth and development at the early stage of life, but adversely introduce extra metabolic stress and thereby potentially induce metabolic disorders in adulthood.
