We previously reported that oral herpesviruses, such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), are associated with periodontitis. However, the relationship between oral EBV or dual oral EBV and Porphyromonas gingivalis infections and periodontal inflammation severity remains unclear. We conducted this study to determine the relationship between oral EBV and P gingivalis prevalence and the periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA) in middle-aged and older adults. ⋯ Logistic regression analysis revealed that dual infection with EBV and P gingivalis was significantly associated with diabetes (odds ratio = 3.37, 95% confidence interval: 1.13-10.1; P = .03). Oral EBV prevalence is associated with oral hygiene and the spread of inflamed periodontal tissue. Diabetes may be a risk factor for dual infection with oral EBV and P gingivalis.

The risk of geographic transmission of infectious diseases due to air travel varies greatly. Our aim is to survey empirical data that provide a retrospective historical perspective on measles and rubella. This study used the open data website provided by the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (TCDC) to extract the reported numbers of measles and rubella case between 2011 and 2020. ⋯ Furthermore, the numbers of imported cases of measles (n = 0) and rubella (n = 0) reported during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic were lower than those from 2011 to 2019. Measles and rubella cases were imported most frequently from Cambodia and Vietnam. This study represents the first report of confirmed cases of acquired measles and rubella from surveillance data of the TCDC between 2011 and 2020, also demonstrates that the numbers of cases of measles and rubella significantly decreased in Taiwan during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Endoscopic treatment of a pancreatic pseudocyst complicated by pancreaticojejunostomy (PJ) stricture is challenging. ⋯ SBE-guided ERP with EUS using a mini probe may be an effective and safe treatment in a patient with a pancreatic pseudocyst complicated by membranous PJ stricture after PPPD.

Retention of ureteral catheter to establish artificial hydronephrosis is a routine step of percutaneous nephrolithotomy procedure, which can improve the success rate of puncture, but it can prolong the procedure time and increase the risk of postoperative infection, especially for immunocompromised elderly patients. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the safety and effectiveness of ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrolithotomy without indwelling ureteral catheter for older patients with upper urinary calculi. The clinical data of 119 older patients admitted to the Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical University for percutaneous nephrolithotomy from January 2019 to December 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. ⋯ The incidence of systemic inflammatory response syndrome was lower in the study group (3.5% vs 19.4%, P = .007). There were no statistically significant differences in complications such as postoperative fever, renal artery embolism and blood transfusion between the two groups (P > .05). Ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrolithotomy without indwelling ureteral catheter for elderly patients with upper urinary stones is safe and feasible.

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is an extramedullary tumor that consists of myeloblasts and rarely involves the female reproductive organs. Intestinal Behçet's disease (BD) is a chronic, inflammatory illness that is often associated with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). When MDS is diagnosed, some patients with intestinal BD experience synchronous gastrointestinal flares. ⋯ The accurate diagnosis of MSs that develop at non-predominant sites is crucial for a positive patient prognosis. MDS should be suspected in patients with a history of intestinal BD diagnosed with MS.
