After measles vaccine supplementary immunization, the epidemiological characteristics of measles have changed in Chongqing, China. In addition, according to data from the National Measles Surveillance Information System, the proportion of measles cases with a history of hospital visit 7 to 21 days prior to onset of measles increased year by year to 32.1% in 2016. Further studies are necessary to eliminate the influence of nosocomial exposure on measles. ⋯ Based on further analysis, the relationship between the number of hospital visits after onset and the risk of nosocomial exposure to measles was that the chances of visiting hospitals increased after onset. Risks of nosocomial exposure to measles and infections are high in pediatric hospitals. Nosocomial exposure risk factors should be considered when controlling measles.

As genetic factors increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD), the families of dementia patients are at risk of AD. We aimed to evaluate the factors affecting preventive behaviors of AD in family members of AD patients. Using constructed questionnaire based on the Health Belief Model (HBM) theoretical framework, this cross-sectional study investigated factors influencing preventive behaviors of AD such the intention to take AD-preventive medicines, prior experience of taking cognitive function supplements, and AD-preventive lifestyle. 147 family members of AD patients were recruited through the Korea Alzheimer's Caregiver Association. ⋯ Self-efficacy, cue to action, dementia knowledge, and perceived susceptibility were significantly associated with preventive behaviors of AD. Also, family members of dementia patients, who are at risk of dementia due to genetic factors, lifestyles, and environment factors, had high level of AD-preventive lifestyle and strong intention to take AD-preventive medicines. Further research could be suggested to understand AD-preventive behavior and intention to take AD-preventive medicines in general population.

Eptifibatide is an antiplatelet agent used in the medical management of acute coronary syndrome. Although multiple studies did not reveal a significant association between eptifibatide and the development of thrombocytopenia, recent case reports brought attention to this relatively rare side effect. ⋯ Eptifibatide, a glycoprotein IIa/IIIb inhibitor used in the management of acute coronary syndrome, can induce acute, profound thrombocytopenia that can have significant morbidity in patients. This case highlights this relatively rare side effect and the importance of monitoring blood counts and observing for any signs of bleeding or thrombosis that might occur in such patients.

The development of targeted therapy has improved treatment outcomes for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, paronychia, a common adverse effect of targeted therapy, remains burdensome. Although conservative treatments for paronychia have been well reported in the literature, studies on the efficacy of surgical partial matricectomy for paronychia, are scarce. ⋯ Surgical partial matricectomy is an effective and enduring intervention for targeted therapy-related paronychia. It provides a shorter course of treatment, reduced pain, and improved appearance of the healed wound. Furthermore, surgical partial matricectomy could result in a better quality of life during targeted therapy than that of conservative treatments.

Acute gastrointestinal injury (AGI) associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has a low incidence of complications in patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Pathophysiological knowledge related to AGI is limited, as few studies have been published on this topic. Therefore, this study was carried out to identify the clinical and histopathological features of patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection and grade IV AGI. ⋯ AGI associated with severe SARS-CoV-2 infection has a high mortality rate and poses a diagnostic challenge in the ICU. The complex pathophysiology and histopathological findings indicate an associated inflammatory phenomenon as the main alteration in the absence of thrombosis, as per the intestinal biopsies of the cases studied. Further clinical studies are required to gain a better understanding of this pathology.
