Pulmonary pleomorphic carcinoma is a rare tumor with a poor prognosis and has no standard chemotherapy. We herein report a case of small intestinal metastasis of pulmonary pleomorphic carcinoma that resulted in intestinal bleeding and was successfully treated with pembrolizumab monotherapy. ⋯ To our knowledge, this is the first report in which small intestinal metastasis of pulmonary pleomorphic carcinoma was successfully controlled by pembrolizumab monotherapy. Immune checkpoint inhibitors may be promising therapeutic agents against pulmonary pleomorphic carcinoma.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused a heavily burden on healthcare workers (HCWs) worldwide. The aim of this study was to compare differences in psychological and social impact between two waves of the pandemic among first- and second-line HCWs in Taiwan. The current study derived data from two cross-sectional surveys conducted in 2020 and 2021. ⋯ In addition, sleep quality was worse in the first-line HCWs than in the second-line HCWs during both waves. The second-line HCWs expressed a greater desire to seek COVID-19-related information than the first-line HCWs during the first wave, and more intended to maintain social distancing during the second wave. Our results show the importance of evaluating the social and mental health burden of HCWs, and especially first-line workers.

The structural maintenance of chromosome (SMC) gene family, including 6 proteins, is involved in a wide range of biological functions in different human cancers. Nevertheless, there is little research on the expression patterns, potential functions and prognostic value of SMC genes in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Based on publicly available databases and integrative bioinformatics analysis, we tried to determine the value of SMC gene expression in predicting the risk of developing HCC. ⋯ In this study, we comprehensively analyzed the expression of SMC family members in patients with HCC. This can provide insights for further investigation of the SMC members as potential therapeutic targets in HCC and suggest that the use of SMC inhibitor targeting SMC2, SMC3, and SMC4 can be a practical strategy for the therapy of HCC.

Gastric cancer (GC) is the fourth most common cancer in the world and the second most common cancer in China. In this study, we compared the clinicopathological features and prognosis of GC between young and old patients after curative resection. Six hundred and eighty-six patients with GC resected were divided two groups according to patient age: Younger GC patients ≤40 years of age (YGC, n = 52) and older GC patients >40 years of age (OGC, n = 634). ⋯ Similar results were found in the OGC groups. Our results showed that YGC patients differ from OGC patients in predominance of women. Gender, N staging, rN, radical degrees were independent risk factors for the prognosis in YGC patients.

Rare magnetic resonance imaging findings of intracranial solitary fibrous tumor: A case report.
Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare mesenchymal spindle cell tumor. SFT in the central nervous system (CNS) is rare. This case reports rare magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of intracranial SFT (ISFT). ⋯ Intracranial SFT is a rare mesenchymal tumor. Due to different tumor components, imaging manifestations are diverse and lack of characteristics, so preoperative diagnosis is challenging. Our case provides a rare ISFT with significantly decreased signal intensity in T2 weighted images (T2WI), which is an important supplement to the rare imaging findings of intracranial SFT.
