Carbon nanoparticles (CNs) are used in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) surgery to facilitate central lymph node dissection (CLND) and protect the parathyroid glands (PGs). However, some cases develop hypoparathyroidism after using CNs. This cohort study was undertaken to explore the predictors of the reduced effectiveness of CNs. ⋯ Multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed on these variables and showed that HT (P = .001) and tumor size (P = .001) predicted the impaired role of CNs. CNs are not always useful in protecting PG function in patients who undergo CLND for PTC. In patients with coexisting HT (blood thyroid peroxidase antibody [TPOAb] level higher than 44.0 IU/mL or blood anti-thyroglobulin antibody [ATG] level higher than 125.0 IU/mL) or a tumor size exceeding 1.1 cm in diameter, the protective role of CNs may be impaired.

Case Reports
Graves' hyperthyroidism induced pancytopenia, epilepsia and muscle weakness: A case report.
Pancytopenia and epilepsia are rare complications of Graves' disease (GD). Muscle weakness is a physical sign of GD. It is extremely rare for GD patients to present 3 symptoms at the same time. ⋯ Severe complications caused by GD are rare and require antithyroid therapy. Although glucocorticoid is not recommended by the guidelines, it can effectively improve thrombocytopenia.

Percutaneous neuromodulation (PNM) consists in using electrical stimulation on a peripheral nerve by using a needle as an electrode in order to lessen the pain and restore both neuromuscular and nervous system functions. The aims of the present study were to evaluate the current scientific evidence of the effects of PNM on pain and physical capabilities in neuromusculoskeletal injuries. ⋯ Treatment based on PNM may be an alternative when treating injuries in soft tissues without significant side effects. However, there are few articles investigating the effects of PNM so more evidence is needed to draw solid conclusions.

This study aimed to measure the prevalence of adverse birth outcomes and associated factors among mothers from the Jazan region in Saudi, Arabia. This was a cross-sectional investigation where data was collected via a semi-structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was completed during interviews to assess data regarding the participants' demographics, morbidity, the reported adverse birth outcomes, and maternal complications during pregnancy. ⋯ Further investigations are needed to assess factors associated with this high frequency level of miscarriage. Furthermore, these findings have preventive and clinical implications concerning pregnant women with a history of obesity, anemia, consanguinity, and hypertension. The goal is to target them with a better range of antenatal care services to reduce the incidence of potential adverse birth outcomes.

Case Reports
Recurrent pulmonary arteriovenous malformation in a patient with Sjögren syndrome: A case report.
Pulmonary manifestations of Sjögren syndrome (SS) are variable and may involve the airway or lung parenchyma and increase the risk of vascular and malignant disease. However, to date, only one case of pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (AVM) has been reported in a patient with SS. Here, we report a rare case of recurrent pulmonary AVMs with aggravating multiple cysts in a patient with SS during a period of 14 years. ⋯ To date, only one case of pulmonary AVM has been reported in a patient with SS. The patient died 2.5 years after the diagnosis without recurrence of AVM. Here, we present a rare case of recurrent pulmonary AVMs associated with aggravating multiple cysts in both lungs, which were observed during long-term follow-up, in a patient with SS.
