To investigate the association between interleukin (IL)-1α (rs1800587), IL-1β (rs1143634) and IL-1 receptor antagonist (RN) variable number tandem repeat polymorphisms, expression levels and lumbar disc disease (LDD). ⋯ IL-1α rs1800587 and IL-1β rs1143634 polymorphisms were significantly associated with LDD in overall population and in Asian population, respectively. The increased expression levels of IL-1α and IL-1β may be the important risk factors for LDD.

Meta Analysis
Effect of metformin on nonalcoholic fatty liver based on meta-analysis and network pharmacology.
Whether metformin is related to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is controversial. Our aim was to investigate the relationship between metformin and NAFLD that may predict the metformin potential of these lesions and new prevention strategies in NAFLD patients. ⋯ Metformin might be a candidate drug for the treatment of NAFLD which exhibits therapeutic effect on NAFLD patients associated with ALT, AST, TG, TC and IR while was not correlated with BMI. HIF1A, NFE2L2, NOS3, NR3C1, PIK3CA, and SIRT1 might be core targets of metformin for the treatment of NAFLD.

Clinical features and management of children with dengue-associated obstructive shock syndrome: A case report.
Dengue obstructive shock syndrome is a fatal complication commonly observed in the late critical phase of dengue infection and is associated with a high mortality rate. The main pathogenesis involves a dramatic increase in chest pressure, owing to severe plasma leakage and mechanical respiratory support, hampering the heart's ability to pump effectively and impeding adequate blood venous return to the heart chambers. To date, there is a paucity of clinical data about Dengue obstructive shock syndrome reported. ⋯ Our study highlights the clinical manifestations and management of children with dengue obstructive shock syndrome and underscores the importance of monitoring hemodynamics by consecutive POCUS at the bedside in order to make a timely diagnosis and assess intravascular fluid volume inadequacy accurately as well as closely monitor the fluid management responses.

Randomized Controlled Trial
The 12 weeks, randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled human study to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of KGC deer antlers on the growth of children.
Cervi parvum cornu is a dried section of the young horns of Cervus nippon Temminck, Cervus elaphus Linnaeus, or Cervus canadensis Erxleben. It is a representative yang-tonifying medicine that warms the viscera and bowels, activates the overall physiological function, and has effects such as tonifying kidney yang, replenishing essence and blood, and strengthening muscles and bones. ⋯ This clinical trial is designed to be conducted on 100 children aged 3 to 12 years for 12 weeks (Trial registration code: KCT0007386). We will evaluate changes in height, height percentile, standard deviation score of height, weight, body mass index, waist circumference, hip circumference, bone age, predicted adult height estimated by bone age, human growth hormone level, insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) level, IGF-binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) level, IGF-1/IGFBP-3 ratio, and estradiol level. Additionally, we also will evaluate the adverse events during the study.

Type-2 diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia, resulting from deficits in insulin secretion or insulin resistance. According to the International Diabetes Federation, approximately 463 million people suffered from this condition in 2019, with a rapidly increasing impact in low-and middle-income countries. Obesity is a well-known risk factor for diabetes, and current data project a continuous increase in diabetes prevalence worldwide in obese individuals. ⋯ A major finding of this study is that impaired RDD was also found in 11/25 overweight and obese subjects in at least 2 stimulation frequencies, being 10 of those classified in prediabetic levels according to their HbA1C values. The RDD of the H-reflex could be used as a quantitative and sensitive tool to study T2DM subpopulations with peripheral neuropathy. RDD could be used as a screening tool in combination with clinical tests to diagnose DPN and evaluate the progression of this condition.
