Pancreatic cancer, a common digestive system malignancy, is dubbed the "king of cancers". The role of pyrophosis-related genes (PRGs) in pancreatic cancer prognosis is yet unknown. In pancreatic cancer and normal tissue, we discovered 9 PRGs that are expressed differently in pancreatic cancer and healthy tissue. ⋯ Functional enrichment analysis revealed that apoptosis, cell proliferation, and cell cycle-related biological processes and signaling pathways were enriched. Additionally, the immunological status of the high-risk group worsened. In conclusion, a novel pyroptosis-related gene signature can be used to predict pancreatic cancer patient prognosis.

This study aimed to evaluate clinical predictors associated with complete miscarriage after medical treatment for early pregnancy loss (EPL) in women with previous cesarean section. Patients with retained uterine content after expulsion followed by administration of mifepristone and misoprostol were included if they chose continued medical treatment rather than surgical intervention. Clinical characteristics including maternal age, gravidity, parity, history of previous cesarean section and ultrasound findings regarding average diameter of the gestational sac, uterine position, width, and blood flow signal of the residual uterine content after expulsion of the gestational sac were included in the analysis to determine predictors of complete miscarriage. ⋯ Surgical evacuation may be avoided in patients without ultrasonic blood flow of the uterine residual and width of the residual <1 cm. More active treatment could be recommended for patients with ultrasonic blood flow of the uterine residual and width of the residual ≥ 1 cm. Clinicians and patients should be aware of these differences when proceeding with medical treatment for EPL patients with previous cesarean section.

To investigate the effectiveness of metformin and atorvastatin in preventing in-stent restenosis (ISR) on coronary patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with percutaneous coronary intervention within 8 to 12 months after rapamycin-eluting stent implantation. A total of 1278 consecutive patients implanted with rapamycin-eluting stent from January 2012 to December 2019, who underwent coronary computed tomography or coronary angiography within 8 to 12 months. The patients were categorized into atorvastatin 20 mg, or atorvastatin 20 mg + metformin 1.5/d, or atorvastatin 40 mg + metformin 1.5/d groups. ⋯ The longer L and smaller d may increase ISR incidence with 8 to 12 months after percutaneous coronary intervention. Both metformin and atorvastatin are beneficial in reducing stent restenosis by a dose-dependent manner. An increasing dose of atorvastatin and a combination of metformin decreases the incidence of ISR in patients.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common digestive disease encountered in Emergency Departments that carries a heavy socioeconomic burden. This study was conducted to determine the global status of AP research. Articles related to AP published in 1999 to 2018 were retrieved from the Web of Science (WOS) database and the 20 highest-output countries or regions were determined based on the total number of publications. ⋯ Research output was positively correlated with GDP. For the most productive countries, research quality was stable. Although developing countries lagged behind in output per capita and quality, great progress has been made in the past 2 decades.

Liver metabolism is strongly linked to bone metabolism, and a significant correlation between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and bone mineral density (BMD) in adults has been demonstrated. However, the current relationship between NAFLD and BMD in the adolescent population remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to investigate the specific relationship between NAFLD and BMD in adolescents aged 12 to 19 years in the United States. ⋯ The results of the subgroup analysis showed that this positive association was mainly found in boys, whites and blacks. The association was not significant in girls, Mexican Americans and other racial groups. Among US adolescents, there was a significant positive association between NAFLD and total BMD, and this relationship varied by gender and race.
