Patients affected with facial palsy consult both traditional Korean medicine doctors and conventional medicine doctors. Considering that the optimal approach varies depending on the progress of the disease, there is a need for facial palsy management through integrated medical care. However, no critical pathway has been developed to manage facial palsy from an integrated medical perspective. ⋯ Conversely, corticosteroids, antivirals, and blood sugar management were chosen to be critical among conventional medical treatments. Considering the responses collected in the present study and the progressive nature of facial palsy, various interventions in both conventional and traditional Korean medicine services need to be included in relevant critical pathways. If the critical pathway developed based on the present study is established, relevant clinical practice guidelines could be made available in an integrated medical system.

To investigate the effect of Anwei Qingyou formula on the clinical treatment of patients with peptic ulcer (PU) and its effect on the levels of epidermal growth factor (EGF) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). ⋯ In combination with the conventional western medicine treatment, Anwei Qingyou formula administration in PU patients effectively improves the overall control of the disease and therapeutic effectiveness.

Torque control of maxillary incisors is very important in maxillary protrusion patients with first premolars extraction, but the efficacy of maxillary incisor retraction of clear aligners is still controversial now. This retrospective study was aimed to compare the retraction effects between Damon Q and Invisalign® appliances in patients with first premolar extractions. 59 patients (33 cases with Damon Q and 26 cases with Invisalign®) with first premolar extraction were selected in this study. Subsequently, patients of each group were allocated into three subgroups according to the pretreatment value of U1-NA (°). ⋯ The increased overbite of anterior incisors was also showed in the Invisalign® treatment group (P ≤ .047). Invisalign® was not sufficiently effective in retracting maxillary incisors compared with Damon Q appliances. Invisalign® led to more lingual inclination movement and increased overbite.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate several preradiotherapy serum inflammatory indicators, including the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), and systemic inflammation score (SIS), and compare which of these indicators had the highest value in predicting survival. Inflammatory markers were combined with traditional prognostic factors, and novel nomogram models were developed to predict overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) for patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. A total of 245 patients were enrolled. ⋯ The nomogram model established based on the multivariate models of the training data set had good predictive ability. The unadjusted C-index was 0.701 (95% CI, 0.662-0.740) and 0.695 (95% CI, 0.656-0.734) for OS and PFS, respectively. This study showed that the SIS-based nomogram could accurately predict the OS and PFS of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

Serum anti-Müllerian hormone (sAMH) is a useful marker of ovarian reserve. In many patients, the sAMH levels gradually recover after falling to the lowest level after surgery (nadir phenomenon). This study aimed to analyze the factors related to sAMH recovery from the nadir after an ovarian cystectomy for endometriosis among Korean women. ⋯ The increasing degree of perioperative CRP level showed a cutoff value on the receiver operating characteristic curve (0.735 mg/dL, area under curve = 0.604; P = .04). Increased serum CRP levels after surgery are significantly related to the recovery of sAMH levels from the nadir. Therefore, postoperative serum CRP level could be used as a marker to predict the sAMH nadir after surgery.
