The use of machine learning for investigating the role of plastic surgeons in anatomical injuries: A retrospective observational study.
While plastic surgeons have been historically indispensable in the reconstruction of posttraumatic defects, their role in trauma centers worldwide has not been clearly defined. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the contribution of plastic surgeons in trauma care using machine learning from an anatomic injury viewpoint. We conducted a retrospective study reviewing the data for all trauma patients of our hospital from March 2019 to February 2021. ⋯ In the external category in AIS, there were 30 patients in the PS group and 56 patients in the non-PS group, and there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups when comparing the outcomes. PS has contributed considerably to the face and external regions among the six AIS categories; however, there was no correlation between plastic surgical treatment and the outcome of trauma patients. We investigated the plastic surgeons' role based on anatomical injury, using machine learning for the first time in the field of trauma care.

The effectiveness of single-session gamma knife radiosurgery (GKRS) for small metastatic brain tumors has been proven, but hypofractionated GKRS (hfGKRS) for large brain metastases (BM) from the linear quadratic (LQ) model is uncertain. The purpose of this study was to investigate volume changes large BM after hfGKRS from the LQ model and predict volume changes using artificial neural network (ANN). We retrospectively investigated the clinical findings of 28 patients who underwent hfGKRS with large BM (diameter >3 cm or volume >10 cc). ⋯ ANN model predicted volume changes with 70% and 80% accuracy for SLP and MLP, respectively. Even in large BM, hfGKRS from the LQ model could be a good treatment option. Additionally, the MLP model could predict volume changes with 80% accuracy after hfGKRS for large BM.

Psoriasis is a serious non-communicable, chronic immune-inflammatory mediated disease affecting about 125 million people worldwide. Its effects go beyond skin manifestation. Through genome-wide association studies, the caspase recruitment domain family member 14 (CARD14) gene and other gene variants have been implicated to have an association with Psoriasis, and as we move towards individualized therapy the discovery of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) is of great importance. ⋯ Bioinformatics analysis showed that rs144475004 located on the exon led to an amino acid change from aspartate to histidine. On the other hand, results of haplotype-based association analysis showed that 2 haplotypes (CARD14-1 and CARD14-2) were protective haplotypes of the disease (P < .05, OR = 0.18~0.38, 95%CI = 0.05~0.88), the frequencies in healthy controls and patients was 6.96% and 1.49%, respectively. CARD14 gene is associated with susceptibility to psoriasis vulgaris in the Hainan Han population.

Curcumin exerts a protective effect on diabetic encephalopathy (DN), It is known for its potent neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. However, the underlying mechanisms of curcumin's neuroprotective effects resulting from high glucose (HG)-induced injuries remain unknown. The purpose of this study is to identify the protective mechanism of Curcumin in the DN. ⋯ Our results indicate a protective role for curcumin in PC12 cells and suggest that it should be considered for the prophylactic treatment of DN in the future.
